[SPOILERS] Novice's nominal nonchalance

Wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie,
O, what a panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty
Wi bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murdering pattle.

I'm truly sorry man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
An' justifies that ill opinion
Which makes thee startle
At me, thy poor, earth born companion
An' fellow mortal!

I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve;
What then? poor beastie, thou maun live!
A daimen icker in a thrave
'S a sma' request;
I'll get a blessin wi' the lave,
An' never miss't.

Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin!
It's silly wa's the win's are strewin!
An' naething, now, to big a new ane,
O' foggage green!
An' bleak December's win's ensuin,
Baith snell an' keen!

Thou saw the fields laid bare an' waste,
An' weary winter comin fast,
An' cozie here, beneath the blast,
Thou thought to dwell,
Till crash! the cruel coulter past
Out thro' thy cell.

That wee bit heap o' leaves an' stibble,
Has cost thee monie a weary nibble!
Now thou's turned out, for a' thy trouble,
But house or hald,
To thole the winter's sleety dribble,
An' cranreuch cauld.

But Novice, thou art no thy lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!

Still thou are blest, compared wi' me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An' forward, tho' I canna see,
I guess an' fear!

So what's the next-best-laid scheme?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

Nice, does it work with civ screenshots where the pictures don't match up exactly, resource bubbles point other ways, etc?

Who are you calling a mouse!?

Well my main mistakes are too late to undo, so I'm just playing on by ear. As I said I think a city 3N of Beach Ball and a city SE of silver are next. Tech will probably go Masonry->Monotheism->Fishing->Sailing->Mathematics->Calendar. If I'm lucky I'll make it 20 turns after Seven. tongue

Still, I can probably have some fun jousting with Mackoti and Nicolae for third place.
I have to run.

I've never used this, Gaspar has. If you enable satellite camera (NOT flying camera), the plane of the map will be perfectly orthogonal to the camera so each tile will be (nearly) identical from screenshot to screenshot. Resource bubbles would be a problem, I would just cut the component screenshots in spots that don't have them.

How do you enable satellite camera?

Alt+F. You can combine it with the flying camera to zoom out further without getting clouds.

I've tried to sort out the population, and despite using Kalin's handy tool for assigning changes, I am still completely and utterly stuck banghead Misplaced whips is my guess (the tool does not do that for me, and so I've still been assigning them based on my intuition which is clearly mis-calibrated frown ).

Turn 56 power assignments (from graphs):

Seven got 5k's worth of units or buildings, he doesn't (I think) have Archery, so I'll put this as Barracks + Warrior.

Serdoa got 7k's worth of units or buildings, assigning these as 1 Spear & 1 Archer.

Turn 57:

Seven grew for 1 pop and got land points.

NicolAT grew for 2 pop & got a classical era tech - I'm think that might be Metal Casting.

Mackoti grew for 2 pop and got land points.

Serdoa grew for 3 pop.

Turn 58:

Seven grew for 3 pop.

NicolAT whipped 2pop and got another (soldierless) tech - I'm thinking Mysticism perhaps?

Serdoa got a tech, possibly Fishing (enroute to Calendar?)

Turn 59:

Seven grew for 3 pop, and got a tech - tentatively assigned as Masonry. He also got 4k of soldiers, perhaps a Spear.

NicolAT grew 1 pop and got a tech - tentatively Poly, could be anything (no solder points). He also got another 1k of soliders, going to put that as losing an Archer and gaining a WC.

Mackoti grew for 2 pop and got a classical era tech - Monarchy?. He got another 3k of soldiers, putting that down as a Barracks.

Serdoa grew 1 pop & got a classical era tech - can't be Maths unless he also lost a Warrior, tentatitvely assigning as Aesthetics. He also got 4k more units, assigning as a Chariot.

Lots of guesswork.

Is this still useful?

I guess maybe it's more interesting than useful at this point? It's not like I'm in any wonder races either, although I will chop GLH if it's still available when I get Mathematics.

Opponent techs are interesting. If we lose track of that there's always Alphabet, though. And since I'm behind on tech we can calibrate our C&D there by checking known tech boni.

Finished my first missionary at end of turn. Someone has a GNP well above 100 and Seven has a size 8 city. Must be nice to have calendar happies hooked up. cry

Interestingly, not-Mackoti adopted HR this turn, so he went the Monarchy route instead.

Also got my first free spread of hinduism this turn, to Backrush. So that was nice, but at the same time Serdoa showed up with a combat I chariot, disrupting my plan for the silver city. So that was annoying.

Ooh, haven't had a chance to look at the saves yet, but that's a nice piece of validation of my guess for what !Mackoti got for his tech last time smile

Pop all round except for !Mackoti. On the subject of !Mackoti, I notice he's also finally in slavery as well as HR.

Power-wise:

Seven gained 6k power - 2k from pop, 4k from units. Perhaps a spear.

NicolAT got 2k power - 1k from pop and 1k from I dunno what. Perhaps dead Archer replaced with Spear/WC? But that makes no sense to me, particularly 2 turns in a row frown

Serdoa got 2k power - none from tech, so perhaps a Warrior.

And I think it's probably Serdoa with the sky-high GNP.
