Ha ha ha. Ha. Tell them that they are to provide the marble to us at a mutually upon agreed time, and not at their leisure.

Agreed on getting marble from CFC as late as possible, but if we are to play it that way, do not log in to the game until Scooter is back and can draft a reply. We need to answer their message before we decline their offer.
Regarding Univers, I doubt they can give us much more map data (they don't have OB with CivFr or CivPlayers, at least they didn't as of T125 when I had my last notes about it), but every tile helps. And opening up diplomatic relations with Univers can only be a good thing. I think the goal should be to get OBs with them too, and I'd be willing to trade a happy resource for that, but that will have to be further down the line.
Maybe Scooter should go travelling more often, given the way the diplo has been developing today?

How nice of them to rub it in like that. I don't mind if you reply exactly that, too. B
Before we reply, are there any other Marble uses that we would have later on? Sistine I think is the only real use for it to come, so it may be worth delaying the marble until t150 for that purpose.

Marble benefits the Hermitage, Hagia Sophia, Sistine, and Versailles. Given that CivFr are the only ones to know Music and has had marble, I'm frankly somewhat surprised they haven't built the wonder yet.
Yeah, we need some replies, and I'm not sure when Scooter gets back, so have some quick drafts:
To Apolyton:
Quote:Greetings to Apolyton,
we are very happy to extend our NAP to turn 170.
We certainly understand the need for delicacy when negotiating with uncultured neighbours, and that we should avoid alarming them unduly. The area is also clearly within your sphere of influence, so we will take your cue from you in this matter.

They seem to like role-playing over there, so I put some of that in. Extra points if we can name the war chariot.
To Univers:
Quote:Hi,
we will send over an in-game map trade offer momentarily. I hope we can come to more deals later on that are to our mutual benefit.
Regards,
kjn, interim diplomat for team Realms Beyond
To CFC:
Quote:Hi Caledorn,
we have already managed to secure another temporary source of marble, so we have no need of marble deliveries from you currently. However, our current source is quite temporary, so we will have need for marble from T145 to T155, as per our agreement.

Also, CFC is fibbing on the timing on the marble and their treaty with the Spanish team. CFC settled the marble city on T131, but the peace wasn't signed until T132.

I'm in favor of calling them out on this.

I would go ahead and send the apolyton one straight away. That one is most urgent.

Some thoughts on diplo.
Apolyton: Even after reading their message, I think our reply is unclear. The roleplay stuff is fine but I think we should give specific assurances that we will not attack that city or move our Chariot closer to it instead of just saying that we'll "take our cue" from them in this matter.
Univers: Why don't we ask for Open Borders in our reply?
CFC: There's really nothing to be gained from being snarky or calling them out on minor details. They've played well these past few turns. They realized that they were hopelessly behind in the Liberalism race and decided to beeline Nationalism, something Sullla was worried CivFr might do. We should congratulate them on landing Taj and, yes, tell them that we have another source of Marble for now. Then, since we have no need for Marble in the foreseeable future, maybe we should try to negotiate for something else? Say, a Fast Worker or their World Map instead of the Marble? If they say no (which they probably will), we can then tell them that we'll take their Marble when ours runs out, around T145.
