There is enough commentary like Phreak's: "oh look tons of damage...and there is the gank....wow what a kill....amazing...dat Teemo" (which are things I can see by myself) and frankly those Korean commentators are fun to listen to for 5 minutes but imagine you have to watch a 4 day tournament with that kind of commentary.
Yeah yeah, I know. Sorry for sounding pretentious, but just was throwing out my 2 cents there.
As much as I think Sullla is king of explanations ( ), I personally just felt his example live cast for the IGN could have had a few more impact/excitement points. Which is why the dual-caster model works so well. Not only do you get to stop talking for a while (see poor Tasteless at the start of GomTV for SC2 before he was joined by Artosis) but the two personalities are what you want. Calm, explanations during the inbetweens, and huge edge-of-your-seat excitement during the crucial big plays.
Sean Plott (aka Day[9]) is the perfect example. He knows when to be calm and carefully explain the background, but also to get really excited and funnel that energy into the viewer. Which is why he is so popular. That and he's quite the character.
Anyways, I'll shut up now. Since apparently I have nothing to offer.

Your teacher style works well for teaching, but it's not as exciting for live commentary. The HoNCast crew was pretty good at it. The Korean SC commentators are legendary for pumping up the action (AaAAAAGH PLAGUUUU).
I would disagree with this. For me personally commentary videos with overexcited teens or high pitch voice commentators are hard to digest. The only thing worse then an over the top commentator is really loud and long introductions to videos.
I rather like the style that sulla adopts on his videos and i feel that when there is a lot of things going on he does speeds up and amps his narration to a degree that is acceptable and still enough to get into the excitment of what`s happening.
I would hate for sulla to start to sound like a gym/aerobics instructor.

Not true! You made a fair point about the entertainment factor in commentaries that I agree with. Sullla has his style and it works for him + the people who like his videos, its not to everyones taste and there's nothing wrong with that. I think the only part of your post that people had objections to was the possibility of trying to change someones natural style which doesn't seem like something that would really improve on whats currently produced.

Agreed, however I don't think anyone here is praising this in particular.

Oh god I saw 5 mins of this guy yelling into his microphone every time a Nidalee spear was within the same screen as his character. Maybe his other videos aren't as bad but I didn't want to find out.

haven't had the courage to check ALL of them but saw a few of them and its the same so i assume theyre all like that....its hard not to facepalm yourself when you see a guy commenting as if he's having an orgasm everytime something happens

Yes it is. Diva and Speaker are still convinced that Liquid is a noob, even though he's been on team Curse for the past year.

Well, he wasn't exactly great at CIV...and looking at that score, Diva and Speaker have a point.
