We've also officially reached the point in single player where I wander off; but damned if it doesn't seem like Newbie, Delusional, and Sandbox are actually going to force me to hit dom threshold.

Active espionage as implemented is bullshit. The passive missions have much more going for them and the stuff that Gavagai and Joey talk about, like removing the slider and rebuilding it as an informational aspect of combat is much better implemented. But then espionage has always been better when abstracted off the map in civ.
