I am considering using the settler whipped from MtK for the front city over there, rather than split the sheep for the filler city location. We can easily get 2 workers over there from the Mids chops, and then the rest is tech, units and opportunities. This would be covered with 2 archers and a chariot and settled around T95 but I expect to speed that up.

Turn 88

I'm in a mood. One of the forests I was going to chop sends hammers to LBJ, not into Kalamazoo, which means I've wasted 2 worker turns moving a worker to that forest and off again, and I need to waste a further worker turn moving a worker to chop a forest I was already intending to chop so that I didn't have to whip Kalamazoo on T93. But this is my mistake, so suck it up, solve the problem and move on.



Highlighted worker should have been sent to MtK to start the road  to City G, or to cottage a tile or something productive. Still on for eot93 Mids though.





Every turn I check to see if someone gets a score increase of 16 or higher. Lewwyn gave me a heart attack, but he got Colossus, so something went his way this game. Should be interesting, as I reckon he is on a shitty little island somewhere, and Colossus will fit his needs well.

Also note 30 hammers in a settler in MtK, so work the hill T89, T90, whip T91, and then it could settle the city G sign on T95. Given the worker fuck up at Kalamazoo, that is not going to be done any faster. But I'm not certain this is the right play, and neither is settling the filler city if I intend to grow LBJ into Rep happy. MtK is a low food city itself. I reckon it should grow on the archer, get that into position, and once the road is being completed, just finish the settler naturally. This seems...wiser. So I'm tempted to work the hill for 2 turns, to complete an archer eot89, and then it reaches the forward hill T94. I'm not sure what the right move is here, it's mainly defined by OH's reaction to settling that area.




OH is going to get circumnavigation, or someone is even further ahead than him. Lots of small islands around here, all flatland, impossible unless you have naval supremacy. And really not worth fighting over.





Magyar is size 2. Going for it. If everything went perfectly, then theoretically it could be captured T91. It won't be captured T91. Realistically T92 with chariot killing only 1 warrior and axe killing two is possible, but again, combat RNG can and will fuck everything. Keep the workers busy though, and gives us a reason to look at IW (especially if we miss Mids as we would likely have the gold to get to that if any more turns pass).

Henge was completed by superjm eot70. If he has stone then Mids could easily fall by this point...but the score from border pops couldn't cause this score increase.

To any lurker, player, or general reader: anyone who looks at this start and thinks it is easy to play, understand this: The nearest pre-calendar happy resource is 11 tiles north of the capital. The second is 13 tiles south. I have settled 9 cities, and other than the capital starting resources, I have picked up two 6 food tiles, three 5 food tiles and three 4 food tiles for all of those cities: Not even 1 food resource per city. There is no marble, nor stone. Both early religions fell before we could get to Myst, Oracle as well. We are at the limits of vertical expansion, and horizontal expansion is about to get a small boost from trade routes, but we are just about done with that as well. There is no one to attack, even in range to attack.

Given the fact we are at +7gpt, 20 gold in the bank and about to get 329 gold from missing Mids, I'm going to revisit. I need to figure out the tech path because I'm not convinced giving superjm trade routes makes much sense when he has Representation. We might need a war dec, and we are going to have to figure out what techs we can afford with the limited gold available.

Ok, plan.

Fail gold is going to be 329 gold. Kalamazoo has Mids in the queue and research queued behind it. We can finish Sailing next turn, and with trade routes to both players we should make over 130 base bpt with research builds. Maybe 140, depends on MtK but I need to look at worker micro tomorrow when I have time.

Currency would therefore be a 4 turn tech. We will have gold enough for 6 turns of research. Academy due T95, and the additional trade routes will be worth something in the region of only 10 commerce per turn, but the wealth would be put through 25% modifiers compared to research which isn't. With tech starting T91, that means only 2 turns of research would go through the academy, but as costs are around 50gpt, we can put around 46 got from wealth, so...it doesn't really matter. We rush Currency, expected eot94. And then we wait and see for CoL and Confucianism. With the Academy, I would expect 16bpt jump. CoL is only 562 adjusted beakers. Another 4 turn tech tbh. Otherwise we could get IW in 2, Maths in 3 and Calendar in 4, and hook up the gems, sugar and incense. Staggered growth, too.

I'd still rather have Mids, but this is better than a kick in the teeth.

Next point. Civics. We need 13 settlers. Most of these will get whipped from cities and then regrowth on markets or forges at various points. We need to time expansion for a lull in tech. Also need to identify what tech is needed. Caste needs to be hand in hand with MC. Need IW through Calendar for happy. Want to swap into HR as well when we go for Caste and that is likely around a GA from the GS from TX.

So given that can't be before T110, we have a start date. We need to have more grown cities, so we need the happy, we need the markets down at least, probably some forges as well.

And the quicker we do this, the smaller the window until we will need a real military. So speed matters.
