I also have a noob question I have BUG and BULL, BUG installed in Custom Assets. Can they cause problems, do I need to uninstall them for PBEM?

To be honest, I think that as long as you're not stupid about what files you put into the public folder you'll be fine. Actually, I was thinking of this: http://dereknewton.com/2011/04/dropbox-a...-host-ids/ Rereading it, it looks like that just lets you access your Dropbox files, rather than what I was afraid it would do, of allowing an attacker to access your hard drive, as long as all you do is upload stuff. (As opposed to, say, Dropbox being an easy way to own your PC.) Now, with that out of the way... Mr. Nice Guy Wrote:Okay one more question at the risk of being accused of bolstering post count to look less wolfish ()-- snake pick vs random (or semi-random) draw.. I have Ichabod preferring random and yuris preferring the snake. I'd tend to also prefer the snake. Which puts it 2-1 for snake with all three of us happy to go the other way if the majority prefers. Is this accurate? And if so what do you want, Commodore & Ranamar?Based on the discussion of snake vs. random, I'm guessing we'll be doing unrestricted leaders. What do you mean by "random"? Is it the thing I've seen from time to time where everyone sends a list in and the mapmaker makes it work, or is it some more literal random assingment? I don't really have a feel for the difference in how those play out, having not done this before, but I'm inclined to cause trouble by voting for mapmaker's choice. Anyway, I don't enormously care, either. Ranamar Wrote:Based on the discussion of snake vs. random, I'm guessing we'll be doing unrestricted leaders. What do you mean by "random"? For the time being, I am calling random "anything that is not a standard snake pick". Pretty ambiguous, I know. Of course, it seems like none of us enormously care, so it looks like I'll get away with the ambiguity So that leaves our leader selection process tied 2-2 with only our Mayor Commodore yet to vote. So what's it going to be Commodore? By the way, if you don't get the Mayor reference, I should refer you to the Gaming Table and the series of Werewolf games. Highly entertaining and accessible to anyone. Once Commodore has decided on the leader selection process, what's the next point of business in getting the game set up?
You can get a look at a t-bone by looking up the bulls ass but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it.
Hey- I used to play a bit and am just getting back into it now. I've never done a PBEM- and I would be fine with any settings, provided we have NTT. Unfortunately, I will be out of town and unable to play until June 14th. So, if you are planning on starting late, I'd love to join...
Well, if it comes down to me I'd go snake. Nobody to blame but yourself, then, if the pick is
And the Mayor reference I totally get, although we always called it "Mafia" and played it with cards assigning roles. Next up is to agree on settings, I reckon. These are just my preferences, everyone has a vote. For my votes: Barbs? Yes NTT is agreed. CTON? No, just no diplo before contact. War Elephants? No Random events/huts? No. Speed? Quick Anything I'm missing? SilverBear, I'm not sure when we'll start (whenever it's ready, I reckon), but if I recall from SMAC five was a sweet spot for number of players. Mr. Nice Guy needed an August sub, though, if you two want to team up.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out. Commodore Wrote:And the Mayor reference I totally get, although we always called it "Mafia" and played it with cards assigning roles.Same here. I'd never heard it referred to as "werewolf" prior to January. I loved it back in 2001-2003, and hadn't played it in years. So you can imagine how happy I've been to get into it on RB of all places. Onto current business.. Barbs? Yes NTT is agreed. CTON? No, just no diplo before contact. War Elephants? No Random events/huts? No. Speed? Normal How about time zones and preferred playtimes? I'm PDT (-0700) and I prefer to play in the window of 0300-0600 GMT, 8pm-11pm local time. Question for the more experienced PBEMers out there: does it make the most sense to have the game travel east-west or west-east? Ignore. Didn't read the entire thread. Delete if possible.

Works best if the game moves with the sun, but really, all that matters is that you can work the time-slots so they line up cleanly. There's the occasional game with 4 western Europeans who'd all ideally like to play at the same time, and those always end up bogging down.
Really the two most important factors in ensuring your game is fun for you are making sure you have compatible time-slots so you can get a turn a day most of the time, and making sure that your vision of the game matches the map-makers. The games that have turned into slogs and/or ended early all had one of those two issues. The games that avoided those problems seemed to be fun for all involves. Also, Lewwyn.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
Ichabod Wrote:Load the save: Multiplayer -> PBEM -> Find the save and load it. Don't even need to do that. Just open the save directly from the email and Civ will boot up with the game loaded (make sure to set a password).
And on the sixth day, god created Manchester.

Yes Sounds perfect to me. But please no raging barbs, just the normal kind One more setting we need to consider: Difficulty level - Noble or Prince gets my vote Difficulty level affects Maintenance, Happiness/Health caps, Barb strength (if we go with barbs)... so it's important in an MP game, not just in SP Also, map size and wrap can be left for the mapmaker to decide, but if you have any preferences, we could discuss that as well Re the time zone, I'm in BST (GMT+1 currently, GMT in winter), and normally online betwenn 1800-0000 GMT |
