Intermediate Game

I could pair with AT or the theStick, no problem.

Tankra Wrote:Agreed. Honestly I haven't been able to play a full single-player game ever since starting to delve into multiplayer.

Just to chime in, I play on Monarch difficulty. I don't find Emperor+ to be fun. And it's true I stopped play SP games when I started here, but I actually started playing some SP games again recently... very relaxing.

Lew did you play adventue 51? Right up your alley, I'd think.

I generally agree with this. However, the odd game on Deity can be a strange kind of fun. I'd recommend giving it a go if you haven't already.

As for this game, best of luck to you all.

I'd like to volunteer to be a ded-lurker\teammate, if anyone needs one and will take me.

I always considered myself an emperor player, however after reading this website and some CFC heavily in the past 2 months, have found immortal to not be nearly as hard as I once thought, and might even have a chance on diety if I stacked the deck in my favor (i.e. advanced start, late start games, overcrowding the map). I think intermediate is where I belong.

However, not enough experience in MP to feel comfortable being the primary turnplayer, esp with my first RB game. (MP really limited to gamespy games years ago before Warlords even came out).

well at a certain point you give diety a try when your normal level gets too frustratingly easy, heh. Or you just start giving yourself artifical handicaps.

One of the most fun SP games I ever was an AW game with 6-7 Ai's.. Monarch, I think, I was Tokagawa (vanilla - Agg\org). Just ages and ages of defending your cores from waves and waves of AI until finally you can break free and start conquering. (In AW with the AI, the various AI's only declare war on you, not each other. Since they all share the "common enemy" modifer they tend to become good friends with each other, as well).

I have also tried cramming 18 civs into a standard sized map - which is fun. Quite challenging in the early game, but once you take out 2-3 it feels like you are the only empire facing a bunch of podunk city-states (unfortunately, the ai's can't seem to knock each other out).

Okay, so, I can start the map whenever folks decide on numbers and directives.

-Four or five players?
-Barbarians?
-Ban lists?
-Land lushness?
-Navy "not ignorable"?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

5 players is fine for a PBEM. I'd prefer RB standard settings. Maybe bump up the difficulty a notch to slow down the usual growth curve.

Barbarians off, they usually act to screw over a player, and there's nothing like losing cities at <1% odds from barbs. Not much you can do about it, unlike players, barbs have nothing to lose.

No FIN leaders except Wang, no expansive India or Inca, no Sury. No spies or blockades, Great Spies can't leave your own territory.

Lush land is fun. Or at least moderately green, don't strand players with tons of un-fooded plains and deserts.

I like navy, it can make early military more viable.

My email is nicolaecarpathia420@gmail.com, and I'd prefer playing around GMT 08:00-10:59

Finally, good luck to all. There is nothing like hunting... the most dangerous game!

PS. I'd be happier if some of the newer players got good ded-lurkers, as they can call you out of you do silly things. Of course, I could be wrong, and some of you guys could completely me despite the apparent lack of experience. My skill has stagnated pretty badly since PBEM18 ended, and my ded-lurking advice has been of questionable value.

It's also worth reading Sulla's Pitboss 2 reports, as that gets you into the mindset of the MP metagame. Which mind you has changed drastically, as we now ban Financial and people push the farmer's gambits tighter. And make sure to report as much as possible, as they're a great learning tool.

Just expect most of the opponents to be better than the *insert expletives here* that played in PB2.

Ok, so since no one else seems to be doing it, I'll go ahead and propose some rules:
[On edit: Apparently someone else *IS* doing it. My bad!]

Leaders/civs picks:

Unrestricted leaders
Snake pick
No Inca, Indians, Suryavarman or Non-Wang Kong Financial leaders

Bans:

No war elephants;
no nukes;
no spies (or spy missions);
no great spy infiltrations;
no blockades;
no barbarians.

Misc:

Quick speed
Diplomacy allowed, except for tech trading.
No goodie huts and no random events (I don't know if I have to mention that here or if it's just standard. Couldn't imagine playing a PBEM with those on... must be frustrating beyond belief)

And, to address your points more specifically, Commodore:
1) I vote for five players
2) Barbarians off I believe is best as well
3) See above
4) I assume that by land lushness you're referring to how many jungles, tundra and forest tiles there are? I honestly have no preference either way for terrain types, as long as it's fair. It could be a bleak all tundra map for all I care, as long as everyone else is suffering as well rolleye
5) As Sian mentioned, water would be cool.

So there you have it. That's my proposal. If anyone wants to change something, go ahead and post and we'll discuss it.
