On a 40x40 five player mirrorland map, capitals are actually spaced apart 8 tiles in one dimenstion and 16 tiles in another. So 16 moves on a direct beeline.

I moved my scout SW in case there was a third food resource to be had by settling on that plains hill. Any opinions on which direction I should scout in, though?

His GNP is 19, this means a tech with a pre-req - Pottery or AH. Food is normally King, so I'd guess AH just like you

I accepted the forwarding request so I'll get the saves. If you feel like grabbing demo screenshots I can do the basic stuff a lot more promptly (I always have access to the forum & my google docs if I'm at home just the game lives in the other OS), but if that's a pain in the arse, don't worry about it & I'll make sure I get to it about daily whatever I'm doing (short of being away).

Re: scouting .. North & East look lusher, but if you've moved SW already maybe worth just heading out that way to meet people? 16 moves hits someone else's NE to tell you what yours looks like before you want to settle?

The map filename sounds like a troll to me, but who knows what it looks like outside this area

I'd say scouting towards the upper river and away from the coastline would be best, so either NE,NE or NW, NW from the capital
