It's the name of famous western characters (maybe I'll even make it only from Leone's movies). The next one was going to be Sentenza, Angel Eyes' name in the original script of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", just to try and make things more difficult. But since it was already guesses, Angel Eyes will be city number 2.

It is strange. Had you used Sentenza I would have known immediatly whom you meant as thats his name in the german version too. 'Angel Eyes' OTOH is a name I would have missed and that although I have watched the film several times in english too. Maybe they made his name be Sentenza in the DVD-version? Now I need to watch it comming weekend and listen how he is called smile

Well, that's a point for using Sentenza. I knew the character as Angel Eyes (found out about the other name looking for ways to make the naming scheme more challenging), having watched the movie in english. Though now that you've said it, I'm not sure if the name is actually mentioned in the movie - I've always seen the character referenced to as Angel Eyes (in the internet and anywhere talking about the movie in english), but not sure if he's actually called that way in the movie.

As you can see, i'm far from an expert in the subject. But having recently watched some westerns, I like the theme. You're welcome to suggest other good characters and movies, by the way.

Well you picked already 2 of the best wink and if you use the 3 main chars of those 2 you have mostlikely enough for the game lol.
Other good westerns depends alot of what you like: Mr Eastwood and Leone (and Morricones music) then "A fistful of dollars" (and its sequel For a few Dollars more) which are in a way prequels to "the Good, the Bad & the Ugly". If you like Bronson then "Chato's land". Another good one is "The Magnificient Seven" (although I like the original "seven Samurai" even better).
If you like more of a parody on it then "Wild wild west"
And of course Eastwoods late masterpiece "Unforgiven"

The timing of the production phase also differs between the games. Civ 4 produces when you hit End Turn. Civ 5 produces at the start of your next turn, after the opponents have moved. (I don't know if multiplayer or GMR affect that at all.) So your rival got Pottery, kicking in the discount, and then you had your production phase.

Seven, I don't know when the devaluation discount was added, if it wasn't in the original version. Nor the magnitude, but I think it's the same as Civ 4, N/30% per each of N civs.

And yes, sandbagging on tech discovery for devaluation purposes does seem to be correct.

I love Seven Samurai, one of my favourite movies (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is also up there). I'll try to watch "The Magnificent Seven" and see how they've adapted it.

So let's say you research a tech to 99/100 beakers. Then someone else finishes it and it gets devalued to 90 beakers. Do you get the extra 9 beakers as overflow into your next turn's research?

I think the logic would result in that, though I haven't specifically tested.

Lurkers talking about strategy and mechanics while player talks about westerns preferences? Yup sounds good to me. nod

Just kept exploring. I'll meet my first city state next turn. No huts in sight.

Nice terrain in the picture below. No luxuries yet, though, so not possible to settle it first. It seems my frontier with Pindicator will be mostly flat ground and that's good new for me! He could potentially War Chariot rush me, so I gotta keep an eye open.
