he probably meant Confucianism?
well actually I have no idea what's he going for. but he's played well in the SG games I've done with him & goey so.. who knows
I hope so...
Looking at macks start, it would be legit to go CHM/something and just grow to size 8. That city has enough hills to make 21hpt at size 8 using just hte pig and a farm, or 20hpt with the sheep and a farm. CHM/IMP for 30 hpt into settlers, cheap banks and markets down the road? CHM/FIN maybe? I'd probably plump for CHM/IMP myself, and Germnay still works, Hunting gives the scout movement and enables AH first, Mining is OK to make BW a bit quicker, get 2 workers then chop out a settler. Could consider Inca and try to get a really early granary to make it work...but honestly, Inca looks like shit without EXP and frankly EXP is so boring I don't think anyone can bring themselves to play it. I don't disagree. But how is it different than RB Mod PRO? Or am I in the minority in finding free CG promos boring? (Id rather have free Drill tbh)

Back to the players at hand...good to see the efforts of some of these newbies!

I'll reply about the RB mod stuff to get it out of the way first.
Drill was removed along with the cheap Castles simply because of the sheer amount of stuff PRO had. But that was done before the kitchen sink got thrown at AGG. Giving Drill 1 back to Archery and Gunpowder units in PRO is probably a legit move, it doesn't really do any awful lot to make it more powerful other than to give it a couple of niche options. I have a lot of stuff that needs to be done for the next major release that integrates all of the changes novice and Plako have done, have some discussion around that and it could be added back. Numids though, no chance. I think there is a difference between balance and flavour, namely that flavour is what makes traits interesting to play because they lead to different strategies and tactics that are interesting choices, and balance is just about no trait being the one right choice compared to any other. It's entirely possible to balance the game by removing every trait bonus, but that would be boring. I also think that is partly what is making people look at PRO: it gives something new when everything else gives nothing at all. I think the traits are kinda balanced here, with the exception of PRO which is just insane (I agree with mackoti). PRO is all about throwing out workers and zerg rushing the land. Who cares if granaries are still 30 hammers more than EXP when you save between 15-20 hammers on each worker and spend less turns building them (plus the 2 pop whip tactic is nuts as well). And late game EXP has +2 health compared to +1 production/tile on hammer tiles like RR'ed mines and workshops? Why would you ever pick EXP?
Oh god he is really going to replay PB3. To be fair even with the nerfs Egypt is at least a decent pick, he needs Agri, Wheel is full cost (60), UB provides functionality can't get elsewhere and UU is, well, it works at least. Just gotta point him away from an Obelisk at the capital and get him to play a good first 30 turns and see what happens.
Heh, yeah, I thought you might have wanted to put a few cautionary stickers on that one...
