Quote:Hi Thoth,
I'm Irgy's dedlurker and am currently subbing for him in the FFH2 PBEM3 game. It seems we've just met, so I thought I'd just send through a friendly "hi" message. It seems you're doing quite well in this game so far, so congratulations on that.
I'm sure Irgy will want to arrange most of the diplomacy himself when he gets back, so there's not much more I can say right now. Though I imagine there's not much reason for our nations not to be friends, since we're on opposite sides of the world and have no reason for conflict in the forseeable future. It's likely that trades between our nations will be possible in the future, although right now it doesn't seem either of us has the ability to offer anything.
Anyway, nice to meet you, and hopefully this contact will mark the start of mutually prosperous relations between us.
Kind regards,
Lord Parkin
(Irgy's sub)
Hmmm. I'm not sure I agree about not having any reason for conflict. If he's heading for Hyborem then anything I can do to slow him down would be a good thing. We'll have to see what my scouting Cultists can see.
Trade should be possible soonish as I'm heading for Sailing + a defogged coastal route in the very near future.

Mardoc Wrote:Alright, I think we have a deal. I'll propose Open Borders in game, which is understood to also encompass everything in "Water Mana for 10 turns starting on turn 120 in exchange for Open Borders now (with a no scouting clause and ROP for Lanun units along the path indicated by the blueish lines in the attached screenshot and an agreement that the Lanun will not attempt to construct any roads within Malakim territory) and a later loan of Life Mana, but Lanun will provide at least 5 turns notification before the Life mana loan begins."
I acknowledge that the desert in my peninsula is not a very valuable area, but it is a strategically valuable location for me (a desert highway for a potential Malakim invasion force makes me nervous, even if said force is only potential) and hence a sensitive area. Plus, of course, plains have more value to me as well, due to the hammer lightness of my civ.
Although it won't affect the question of the water mana deal. I would still like to discuss equitable settling arrangements to the further east, past your pig/incense city of indeterminate name. I could fit in a number of useful coastal cities over there. Perhaps a continuation of the border at the latitude of that city's current southern border (the line between the pigs and the shipwreck)?

I accepted the OB agreement in game.
As far as allowing additional Lanun settlements in my lands NO BLOODY WAY. He's also gone ahead and built a city on the east coast of the southern peninsula....in the "currently empty" area.
I'll get back to him in a bit.
I also note that he has a hawk in his Northeastern most city (its the only way he could have seen the incense)

ok - don't go potty! :neenernee
Things to consider - Mardoc isn't going to be a long term threat to us - we have a highly promoted army ready. Whilst I wouldn't threaten him outright - I would consider us to have more bargaining power than he does...
What area is he refering to exactly? Down near the Remnants of Patria??? Is there much land south of Golden Tipi?
I think we need to know more about the Pirates and how much land they have down there. Sentry cultists will be really useful.

Yeah, now that I've had time to think about it, it may be best to just let him settle that area and then take the cities by force later on. Since we're his natural target for war I'm running under the assumption that there will be war between us at some point.
I agree 100% that we need more info. I've got two Cultists (one with sentry) that are starting to explore that area more fully.

So it seems that Mr. Yellow decided to attack my stack rather than running towards his remaining cities. He lost 6 out of his 12 warriors but managed to kill all six of my units. It hurts but none of them had more than 9xp so it isn't crippling. He won't be able to re-enforce Vallus before Nyktorion's attack and he'll have a hard time getting to Trinity in time as well.
If he's managed to tech to HBR he'll be able to promote his units to Mobility and re-enforce. We'll see what happens when the turn gets back to me.
Irgy/LP somehow managed to get a warrior through the desert:
Note that the warrior has "already casted this turn". I see two possiblities:
1) he just drank a healing potion
or
2) he split a great commander off from the warrior to keep it out of my vision range.
At the end of turn I finished up Military Strategy and this fellow appeared:
I'll send him off to Golden Shack to build a Command Post (+2 xp for military units built in the city and +20% military unit production)

Nyktorion Wrote:Hi Thoth,
some more updates on the Bannor campaign:
My hawks could not spot your stack containing Kolos and Korath anymore; also, six of the twelve Bannor warriors who were heading east have vanished from sight. From that, I can just assume that Mr. Yellow's warriors turned around and attacked your stack. My condolences on your losses!
I have assembled my own attacking stack at the border to the Bannor this turn. I will declare on Mr. Yellow and cross the border next turn; the turn after that (T107), I will attack Vallus. With the Bannor reinforcements halved and delayed, a quick victory in Vallus is assured.
On a last note: my hawks spotted the first Bannor catapult in Trinity this turn. However, as long as this remains his only catapult, I don't really (and as we discussed yesterday, further catapults will be quite expensive for him at 60h each, and with no other citis to produce warriors in the meantime).
best regards,
Nyktorion
Thoth Wrote:Yeah, looks like he managed to swap 6 of his units for 6 of mine. So it goes.
His little fit of pique means that he won't be able to re-enforce either of his cities in time to prevent their fall.
The loss of my units is mildly annoying, but at least I still have my core of elite units intact.
The Sheaim made contact with me this turn, somehow they managed to get a warrior through a Gargoyle and Giant infested desert. I'm somewhat concerned about the recent founding of AV. It is only a matter of time before the Sheaim summon the Infernals (if he heads straight for Infernal Pact he can do it within 10-15 turns). Unfortunately the Sheaim are a long way away and the Elohim appear to be co-operating with them. This does not bode well for the future of the Ljosofar and Malakim civilizations.
Would you be interested in negotiating a Mutual Defense Pact to help ensure our mutual security?

WarriorKnight is sending Ale to Irgy in exchange for Gems which means he's got his Brewing company up already (and explains what he's been doing with his hammers).

Thoth Wrote:Hi Lord Parkin (and Irgy)
I'm glad to have finally met you.
Congratulations on navigating your warrior through a very dangerous stretch of desert. My own forces have been avoiding that area due to the extreme risks posed by Giants and Gargoyles.
At the moment, I do not see any reason for conflict between us. As you say, we are very far apart from each other.
Trade may be possible in the near future. I have some naval assets that are currently scouting in your direction to defog a trading route. I do not have any surplus happy resources available to trade at the moment, but I do have a surplus supply of Sheep (and will have some extra Crabs at some point). I'm looking to pick up a source of Clams if you have any surplus available to trade.
Thoth.
Actually I do see a reason for conflict: That warrior near my borders, a possible GC running around in the desert and AV with the probability that he will be getting Infernal Pact soon. It will take a few turns for my Cultists to arrive off his borders. We'll see what happens between now and then.
