Eh, 'primarily' for Aesthetic reasons ... I only wanted to convey the exact information that I wanted to convey ... and also that I felt like it.
Think of it as an 'Author's choice' ... if you present your model Naked in every scene, ppl are going to get bored .... so why not slap on a face-mask, or some pasties?
Any thoughts Krill?
I'll post some more screens in a few turns, I think I've covered the basics of what Im trying to do ... main input needed would be any sort of strategy dealing with Elkad on the land ... I do hope Donovan invades Elkad, but if he doesn't ... Also, I just signed Open Borders with Commotay today. (Dtay was actually the one that offered)
OK general shit.
Don't make another academy. Its not worth it. Two long bows or one lb and one pike in Thebes is enough provided you have a caravel over there to give you one turn reaction time. You will need enough units on the island to reposition to defend cities.
Guilds next is fine. Knights are useful in this instance.
Don't need more than 3-4 xbow given the unit composition elkad has. If you attack at Maastricht you need 25 landed units to threaten further cities and defend from Commodore. In fact you are likely better off attacking Maastricht a d threatening Commodore to force him to accept a peace treaty to leave you alone. Or just wage another war to claim colossus as that kinda makes sense.
Academies tend to have worse and worse payoff-times as the game goes on. Bulbs get bigger as your total pop increases, Golden Ages are more powerful as your empire grows bigger (you might want to look what else in that city besides a few cottages, by the way) and because a single city will tend to generate a smaller percentage of your total commerce. It's rare that anything more than a single Academy - and only then in your capital to take advantage of Bureaucracy - won't be a waste.
The only way to deal with elkad whilst intending to kill him is to make him think he has an out. I don't see how you do that given he almost certainly has city visibility on your cities. You just need too many units for him to deal with or have the bait of fort Kickass to kill a large proportion of his units when he becomes fixated on killing that city. Make him attack your stack when you have too many units, suck up the collateral and then kill his stack on your turn after he attacks and fails to wipe it out.
