I played the Korea turn tonight because I wanted to have Iron Working in before I decided what to do with all my workers, just in case there was Iron nearby...which of course there isn't. There's only two spots visible with it. South of Korea in the ice, and across the water from me (at least in a decent spot). So after I settle my jungle city, I think we may want to consider finally getting some colonies over there. I'm sure all the rest of the teams are gobbling up that land.

Nakor, I noticed you had built an Archer and had two other archers in queues. Don't build any archers. Leave those for me, since I have Totem Poles. You build us Huachas, Chariots, and I guess Axes & Spears. Though right now you'll probably also want to have at least one or two of your cities make some Missionaries. After ending your turn, I switched over to Organized Religion, so now you'll be able to make Missionaries. Also means you'll be in Anarchy next turn so we have time to decide which tech to research next. I chose Calendar as the next one, but we can always switch to something else. I'm thinking Calendar since now we'll have at least 4 or 5 happy resources to be improving, so I think we want to get those going.

I also switched myself to Hinduism, and used my missionaries to spread Hindu to 3 more of my cities. Now all but 2 cities have it, so my cities are getting their Markets (and other buildings) out faster.

Right now, I'm thinking I want to get a bunch of Catapults (and Huachas from Korea) along whatever other military I can muster, to go up and try to capture (or just raze) a city or two from WarriorKnight.

Also, I'll be able to give a more detailed report of the goings on of my civ tomorrow night. Just don't have time tonight as I have to head into bed.

It would be a mistake to not secure iron first. Leave the jungle city for later. Without iron, no x-bows, pikes, knights, cuirs or cannons. You cannot afford to get shut out of iron access.

Ok, thanks for the pointers! I really like us to tech Calender first. I'll build a settler in Calcer Ridge to settle the Spices for more happiness. And I'll get some missionaries out as well.
PB 6 learned us that in the end, land is power, so we (my civ as well) need to keep expanding...

Land is power as long as you don't get behind on tech...

Nakor - you've got a warrior exploring the other side of the water from HAK (I think he went north to check on RMOG) can you send him back south to uncover where LAM's most western cities are? If we're going to try for that Iron we need to know how much time we have before Commodore comes that way... Just call me cowardly custard.

I'd suggest that securing the jungle border with RMOG is higher priority than the iron as we can settle a (terrible) city for the other iron and we don't know the surroundings of the better iron yet.

Also if we are going to do the across the water settling then I think we should get multiple cities quickly. So I think the next two or three settlers from Korea should go to me for sending over there. Nakor can hook up his spices in the north for the happiness with even using a city since they are already in his borders.

I'll send the warrior towards Commodore.
And I'll try to get some Settlers out fast. Should be doable.
From the next 3, 2 should go to HAK, but I'd like to use the other myself to get more commerce and those Spices do give commerce.[/u]

The key word is "terrible". The focus should be to settle good cities that can contribute quickly. Jungle cities always take a long time to set up. Let RMOG chop the jungle (and have unproductive cities drag their economy down). Having said that, strategic locations (i.e. settled on hills) are fine to set up since you don't want to give up a tactical advantage. Just settling jungle to have a "border" does more harm than good. Better to capture jungle cities once your opponent has spent the worker turns to make them productive.

The iron located across the sea has plenty of nearby fertile land (not far from HAK's capitol). It would be a shame to pass on good land while settling jungle. You always want to settle good land FIRST unless a particular site has strategic value.

@ HAK : care to post screen shots of the border area? Would make determining which border cities are critical much easier (since I am just suggesting general principles).

Houston...We Have a Problem!!!!

We're going to lose Hill 70 to LAM. There is nothing we can do about that stack. We only have the Archer, to unpromoted Spears, & the Str 1 promo Chariot.

Should we leave all the units in there and let them die? We'll get GG points from them fighting and dying within our Great Wall borders....but is it worth losing the units themselves and giving promos to their units? Chariots can only go 4 tiles over roads right? That also means we can't get any reinforcements in there this turn since the Moai city (which has 2 chariots) is 5 tiles away.

No. Absolutely retreat to Calcar Ridge and fight it out from there. Begin whipping axes in all cities; they only have one chariot, so don't worry about spears. Some archers or chariots since they're fast from you, HAK, would be nice too. Honestly, it looks eminently survivable to me, at the cost of Hill 70, which was only ever intended as a border plant anyway. We can retake or resettle it later.

Yeah, mostly axes, I think, 'cause they can attack and defend, though mix in some hwachas for collateral esp. since they're just as good as axes against melee. No spears; we have enough. We have archers to move to the front. Chariots would also work well against their stack but only on the attack, so maybe build axes at first and follow up with chariots, esp. from HAK, later. HAK currently has our horses since that tile was plundered (I don't think the deal would've auto-cancelled).

So much for what they said when we razed their city about wanting to focus on Seven ...
