Continuing the trend of orphaned seafood, here are some whales I will probably never hit the culture level to grab. Oh well, not PRO this game, so probably not going to build a lot of markets anyway!
This city is named after the Venetian Arsenal, by far the most broken wonder in Civ6 and one of the few worth the insane cost of building. Build it on the coast, and every city you own now produces double ships. This being in a game where ships are already really strong - imagine if you could take cities with just frigates, without needing any amphibious attackers and transports to move them. Somehow, RB had several games that went without banning this wonder.

I would expect that city to reach 500 culture by the time you get Optics. Nothing wrong with that placement!

Only 500 culture? I was expecting much worse for a fourth(?) ring ocean tile. Happy to be creative this game!

Fourth ring is third expansion which costs 500. The main difference for ocean tiles is that you can only claim 2t away from the landmass the city is on.

new city:
I probably should have slowbuilt the settler here, as it ended up outrunning my worker and unit support by a couple turns. IMP makes you greedy - if I see an opportunity to 2 pop whip a settler, especially while I still don't have a lot of improved tiles, it's hard not to take it. And I did enough scouting that I didn't have reason to believe there would be many enemy units in this area.
This one is named after the Civ 6 religious belief Defender of the Faith. For a long time this make grabbing the first religion a big big deal, as the first to any religion got a guaranteed +10 strength to all of their units in their home territory. It was eventually nerfed to a more reasonable +5.

Hmm I'll disagree. Scythia should have been 2S, Uruk 1SE, and cities placed 3N of the copper (as a filler when you have the time) and 1W of the pigs for a solid front city and fantastic vision from CRE claiming all the hills and peaks.

The yellow dots are what you'd be going for here, right?
Looking at it, I can see the merit in 1W of the pigs + 2S, just because each city would have a strong food tile to get going and then work the grassland. Two cities would also be better for pushing a cultural front against mmjd - missed opportunity there for me. But I'm less sure about the 3N + 1SE arrangement. The 3N filler will have zero food outside of stealing either of the sheeps, and it would be only grabbing a few hill tiles. The current city I settled grabs two strong tiles immediately, and all the other land in the area, only at the cost of missing out on the whales as a workable tile. Without FIN the whales don't seem that worth grabbing immediately, especially early game when Optics is a million turns away.

Good news: Gavagai declared on Mmjd. MMjd being slowed down with war chariots gives the rest of the field a fighting chance.

new city
this one is starting to break the piggy bank, down to 0% science. not a lot of good cottage terrain so far, but i am going to hook up silver in a few turns, which should help. and once i crawl to priesthood i have cheap courthouses to build.
(the city placement here may not be ideal... will see if being able to squeeze another city by the cows is worth it)
this city is named after another broken Civ6 religious belief, Work Ethic. for the longest time this would only give a meager 1 hammer per 4 pop, in a game where cities rarely get to size 16 before the late game. But it was updated recently to give 1 hammer per adjacency bonus, making it easy for certain cities to get 6-8 hammers per city if the terrain was favorable. This one wasn't nerfed, and tends to invite banning in mutliplayer games.
