Gustaran Wrote:One thing is that farming with a ping of 220 on US is considerably harder than farming with 50 on EU. Still, I wonder why there is no guide or anything else on youtube that teaches you how to manage creepwaves properly. The top players seem exactly to know which minion to hit and when so the wave moves in a way that suits them.
I, however, can "only last hit" or "full autoattack". banghead

Yeah, ping is funsies. If I'm getting heavy ping I typically add a time delay to my attack. Or time preface? Whatever, I attack half a second earlier.

As for wave management, typically I watch which creeps are getting focused by my creeps. If everyone except a few are high HP, and I can 1-shot the few weak ones, I quickly get those out of the way. This happens a lot if a wave has grown. Otherwise I just focus on whichever is getting lowest first.

Once you're really good you can predict when they will be in last-hit range since typically the rate of damage they take is almost constant. So, if you see two that are going to die at the same time, and have enough time, you can speed one up with a few auto attacks. Or make sure you have an AoE ability to get both. However, this is fairly advanced and tricky so I recommend practicing targeting whichever is lowest.

A weird subtle point is if you want to push faster, targeting the ranged creeps even if they're not being attacked and paying attention to the melee creeps is typically the way to go, imo. Since the ranged creeps are weaker and usually not being attacked, they are quicker to kill (thus removing the dmg they do to your creeps) and you're guaranteed to kill them since nothing else is attacking them. Just be careful for when they run out of melee creeps and suddenly your creeps move on to their ranged ones. However, you have to carefully intersperse this with still last hitting the melee creeps.

Lastly, my overall advice is even while pushing, always be last hitting. In HoN/DotA where my friends taught me to always deny and last hit while pushing. Sure you may not need to be careful, but the extra gold helps and it's more practice. And really this mini-game is all about the practice.

How do you suggest practicing ?
Bots are one option, but I find it considerably harder to farm against a real opponent then against a bot who doesn't do a lot.
The problem is that in SoloQ due to the lack of junglers you hardly get a solo lane, but rather an autoattacking Master Yi with you ....

Uhm, did you actually read the recent posts ? We were discussing how to improve one's ability to farm and what the best way for practice is. I can jungle just fine, unfortunately killing creeps in the jungle will not help me to improve my last hitting skills as an AD carry in any way.

True, but you also said that because of the lack of junglers in solo queue you were stuck playing with two duo lanes, which isn't as good for the team as having a jungler would be. If the teams requires a jungler, it'd be smarter to play one in the games. You said that you want to practice last hitting and answered yourself by saying that it's harder to farm against human opponents. If your problem is simply timing the last hits, then a game or two against bots is exactly what you want - the problem you have against the human player isn't just the last hitting, it's the positioning, but you aren't going to be able to practice that in a game where you have 2 duo lanes anyway because the strategy of a duo lane is different to a solo lane.

To be honest the best way to learn proper laning, proper lane management and all that other jazz is to actually play the characters you want. It's solo normal queue - nobody really cares about composition. Lately I set myself a goal to become a better AP player - and as such, I will claim mid with Gragas ASAP and not bother if anyone else wants to play that role. I can duo mid for all I care if the other person won't step down.

Just grind solo queue like that and practice. I know I'm already getting better.

Good point, I am going to practice some more 1v1 against bots.

I used to suck really hard at playing AD in bottom 2v2 lane. Then I grinded normal solo q, going bot every time with AD(my normal solo queue is decently high at this point, so I do get proper team comps, or at least team comps that follow the laning meta right now). Now I just suck. smile

Typically my practice comes in 2 parts.

1) While laning, if my job is to last hit, I last hit. If your teammate is a loser who can't last hit, count them as an extra minion and see if you can still last hit (the extra difficulty is useful)! If they're competent, then share the last hits.

2) Any time I'm pushing/defending/killing creeps period I'm practicing last hits.

So, whether you're fighting bots or SoloQ, every time you're fighting creeps you should be practicing.

I was wondering if alternate keybinds are being used much? The default summoner spell keys (D and F) in particular felt really awkward for me to use mid-fight, so I've been experimenting with binding them to T and Y (which if anything was even worse), and now to 3 and 4 (My items with active use abilities are always in the 1 and 2 slots so there's no overlap). I'd be interested to know if anyone has made similar changes. smile
