Now no one can blame me for choosing who gets put in the middle. The screenshots above are named for player0 - player6. I'll put the players' numerical responses from the tech thread in order and match them to the corresponding start. So whatever complaints they have I can now pass the blame back to the players, saying they picked their own starting locations. Look, the blood rinses right off my hands!
I'll post the players' starting screenshots in their threads now. If I have time today to do more with the map I will, but I'm not going to hold up the game too long at this point, the map is pretty solid. All the ratings aside, there's nothing that says the players won't settle right on in to someone else's territory anyway. I'm hoping someone has opened the WB file and looked around for problems that way. As long as the city sites are pretty even across the map that is a good indication, too. I can be convinced to make a few changes to sea tile resources (add a few for the team that's most lacking), but only where it makes sense -- I'm not going to cram an extra six fish on a coastline that doesn't need it by the eyeball test. I've done my best to avoid having any possible four food sites across the map, though I've probably failed a time or two.
Anyway, if anyone has further map suggestions please raise them soon. I'd like to have the map ready to ship by the time the players have their picks in.

I will say I am disappointed no one took the opportunity to do this....

Everyone submits a list and it gets resolved FFH style, apparently. I'm not familiar with FFH style but the description they've put in the tech thread seems comprehensible enough.

The Boggle setup is interesting, if that's what they're going with. (I haven't read carefully enough to know what the final answer was on that.)
I think maybe you'd want to use the last picks as bans, combinations you know you won't get but you also don't want to play against. And then for the first picks you want to find combinations that are unconventional enough not to be duplicates (knowing that other people are trying to do this too), but that you want to play?
Since this is gleanable from Xenu's previous posts anyways, here's a overview of who got what position, so we can speculate which borders will erupt in flames first and etc.
There are few early luxuries available, which is okay. But their access to the first luxury is very uneven:
- Gaspar has one grass hill jungle gem in a weak location, settling on top of it is not feasible. A desert gold is available in a weak location, and two jungle ivory tiles are available. Another gold tile is available in a good location, some distance away.
- dtay gets an ivory tile in the capital BFC on his second border pop, and he has a fur tile available not too far away in a reasonable location.
- The Black Sword gets silver in the capital BFC on his second border pop, he has a fur tile available in a good location and a gold tile available a little further away in a good location.
- pindicator has fur and ivory available in decent locations and a jungle gems tile a little further away in a good location.
- Thoth has fur and ivory in reasonable locations.
- Oxy has a single jungle ivory tile in a mediocre location.
- Commodore has a mediocre silver location and two jungle gems in bad locations.
Do you feel these are balanced with each other, or do you think that the weak positions have other advantages to counterbalance their luxury weaknesses? Copper locations are also quite different in early value. Some players can claim them along with an early luxury and/or horses and/or shared capital food, others get little of all that.
