So yeah, the situation is not so good right now. Mackoti attacked me before i was ready. I only have like 5 rifles up by the border right now, and he has like 25 knights, plus various 1-movers. I still don't have engineering either. I'm sure he'll burn down a couple more cities before i can stop him, but I'll eventually crush him.

Makoti is complaining about the silver trade in UN.. (or using it as justification)
I offered him silver while subbing for you before there was even a 2nd source hooked up (had happiness to spare in all cities). He declined the trade. Twice IIRC. Elkad Wrote:Makoti is complaining about the silver trade in UN.. (or using it as justification)hahaha that's hilarious. I wonder why he declined it from you? He did accept it from me. I know the silver thing is just an excuse though. He must have seen that I'd just researched rifling, and decided that his only chance to do some damage was to attack immediately. In retrospect I should have teched nationalism first, and drafted some macemen for defense instead of just building catapults. Stupid overpowered knights .
So I had been expecting to lose some more cities, and I was pleasantly surprised this turn to find that Mackoti had retreated.
The reason? I had some... rather good luck in combat this turn. One of my riflemen took our 4 of his knights! Admittedly he was fortified in a hill city, but that's still very good luck.
So, Mackoti has retreated all his forces inside his border. He did do one attack, though. He killed my original scouting warrior, Clubber Lang. My warrior took down his knight almost to half health, though.
I avenged him by killing a loose longbowmen. I figure he'll need to lose at least one more knight or macemen to kill my rifle, and i can rebuild units more easily than him, so I'll come off ahead from this trade.
Any estimate on when you'll be able to counterattack?
Civilization IV: 21 (Bismarck of Mali), 29 (Mao Zedong of Babylon), 38 (Isabella of China), 45 (Victoria of Sumeria), PB12 (Darius of Sumeria), 56 (Hammurabi of Sumeria), PB16 (Bismarck of Mali), 78 (Augustus of Byzantium), PB56 (Willem of China)

I guess it might be smarter to avoid attacking mackoti at all, and just keep the bare minimum number of troops there for defense while I send everything else east to attack Parkin (who looks to be getting both railroad and assembly line before we can attack).
but it's just so tempting to take advantage of this opportunity to kill mackoti.
So the turn began with a surprise- Parkin got an AP resolution to assign my small border city to him. I denied it of course, but it'll cost me some unhappiness in my (few) christian cities).
Then I saw that my good luck with the RNG continues. This one rifle killed FIVE units this turn, not counting the longbow he killed last turn. This is a little annoying. Nakor said he'd loan me a frigate to clear out mackoti's blockade. But it looks like he sent it to the wrong place, so it would have to sail all the way around to get there (I should make a fort canal there at some point). I told him to just send it against Parkin instead. Power graph. Mackoti's has gone down, mine has gone up, plako and Parkin are way up. Mine will start rising fast after I tech nationalism next turn. I've got 15 rifles (plus 22 cats, 1 mace, my medic 3 GG, and a few chariots) to invade next turn. I think that's probably enough to go.
Argh I don't know what to do. Do I attack with my forces there? Mackoti has 5 cats, 1 trebuchet (wtf?), and 26 knights that we can see, plus a few maces and longbows. He might have more units in hidden tiles, but probably not many.
Basically my main force of 15 rifles can crush his easily. The problem is, while I'm invading his territory, he might send his knights out past me to raze more cities. And if I send all my cats in, he might kill them with flanking damage (although probably not, since he's already promoted his knights to combat). I could of course send in more rifles, to defend and attack at the same time. But I really need to start preparing for the war with Parkin (should have started already, really). Buuut if I wait then Mackoti will get gunpowder, and make this situation more difficult. So I keep going around in circles. |
