Redstone is always so mysterious and spooky to understand how it works, until you take a University course in digital logic and you can recreate every single part of the class material in Minecraft.

I haven't really done a great deal on this lately as I've had a lot on in RL however I do plan on keeping it going once things calm down a little. Don't expect that to be for a few weeks though.
In the meantime you can now play a demo version of Minecraft for free! Something I would love to do in a few months is start playing on a Minecraft server - if enough of us here at RB are interested we can all join a server together or perhaps start oour own. I am looking into options. In the Demo I think you get 5 days and 5 nights (gametime) to play around with - enough time to explore and build some basic stuff. Interesting thread, I've known about Minecraft for a while but never really thought much about playing it. I like building mega block towers for my one year old to smash, so maybe I'll like building things in Minecraft. Smashing optional.

I've not really been around too much of late as I have been awful busy getting ready for the arrival of our first child.... which is late and has thus meant these past couple of nights I've actually had some free time for once!!! I had been looking for a project that would see me through a while in Minecraft and the cave hadn't really been cutting it for me. I felt like I had made too many mistakes and that I could have done things a lot better. It was always a case of: "I need this, I'll build it here" without really thinking about the bigger picture and factoring in some design aspects as well as functionality. So I started to plan in my head a floating island concept where each island would serve a purpose. This concept has probably been done before in minecraft but I wanted to give it a go myself and see what I could come up with. The important thing for me this time was going to be design. It has to look good most of all. I spent the odd 20 mins I did here and there over the past few weeks gathering lots of resources and getting ready for 1 mission - travelling around the islands is going to be a pain in the arse unless I have and endless supply of Ender Pearls to hurl around. The best way to do this is to set up an Enderman Farm in the End. As I did this over lots of very short sessions, many of which actually didn't get me any closer to my goal, I didn't catelogue the journey. I will show you all the Enderman Farm in due course, once it has some cool design of course as at the moment it is only functional!  Anyway - once I completed this task I basically had dirt shack in the overworld to live in, naff all in terms of a decent food supply, and some very badly explored caves...The next project was to build the entrance to the Floating Islands and this is where this story begins. [SIZE="5"]The Halfway House[/SIZE]  Hopefully you will agree that this little house is quite quaint!  The Halfway house is a little guest house where weary travellers can get their supplies before advancing on further into the floating island realm.     You can rest, keep warm, eat and grab a supply of ender pearls to help you on your travels in the world. Hope you like it! I can't promise to update very often at all over the next month or so as baby will arrive in the next few days, but I will do if I get the time! If you want to get into Minecraft then I highly recommend checking out youtube. There are some excellent builders around and some that are crazy good with the programming side of things. Try searching for these: Ethoslab (the guy is actually called Etho) Bdouble0 Vintagebeef Sethbling Zisteau plus many more. All of the above (except sethbling) play on a private server together called mindcrack. |
