[SPOILERS] Yossarian blames Caledorn

(August 8th, 2013, 01:43)Cheater Hater Wrote: I'm still not sure what to think about Harem and Barteq--Locke and Cervantes had a hidden meaning, so maybe that's something to check. That would be interesting with full diplo too--was PB4 AI Diplo?

Is there a particular reason why you left Exp/Phi off the list, considering you two like Exp and put Liz on there? I know Phi is a step below the top 3 (and I probably overrate it), but it seems better than Exp/Ind :/

I did a quick Google search yesterday on "Harem and Barteq" but didn't see anything that stuck out to me. I think PB4must have been full diplo, right, since LP was able to secure super-long NAP's with all his neighbors?

Good point about Exp/Phi, I probably should have included Peter on my list. Thinking more about it, that probably has a little more synergy than Lizzy with Fin/Phi.

We chatted about it last night, so he's up to date:

Quote:YossarianLives:
I really like Cheater Hater’s insight about our newcomers 8:05 PM
Caledorn:
His post is excellent 8:06 PM
I really enjoyed it too. And great to have yet another experienced dedlurker, even though he has flagged that he will be mostly inactive 8:06 PM
YossarianLives:
Yeah, he's been really excellent on Team Gillette about posting short comments that have a lot of insight 8:07 PM
Caledorn:
Who is Haram and Barteq? Are they this team eagle or what it's name was? 8:07 PM
Yeah, I've noticed him on there. I haven't posted much there since they use those silly screenshot tags instead of img tags, which means tapatalk doesn't show the images 8:08 PM
YossarianLives:
Oh it doesn't? That's horrible! 8:08 PM
They are our game's Locke and Cervantes 8:09 PM
Caledorn:
Indeed, since I more or less only use my phone to read the forums as tapatalk is so great. I might ask the tapatalk team to add support for it.. 8:09 PM
I'm guessing Locke and Cervantes was totally unknown in PB4? 8:10 PM
YossarianLives:
Yeah, brand new players who had never posted before on RB 8:10 PM
Until at the very end of the game, Sulla revealed that it was actually him and Speaker playing using pseudonyms 8:11 PM
Caledorn:
I was *just* about to ask about that... 8:12 PM
"Has it ever happened that someone has played a game under false nicks" I was going to ask.. Good grief. If we get anyone like that in here, that's intimidating 8:13 PM
YossarianLives:
But they signed up very similarly, coming up with a two-person team out of nowhere, even though they had never posted before 8:14 PM
Yeah, makes things very interesting 8:14 PM
I am sure that this is what the lurker thread is all abuzz over 8:14 PM
And I bet for sure Parkin will have his suspicions, since he played in PB4 8:14 PM
But the other teams of newcomers will have no idea lol 8:14 PM
Poor maga 8:14 PM
Caledorn:
You're quite certain we're dealing with pseudonyms too, right? 8:22 PM
YossarianLives:
I hadn't even considered it until a second ago when I read CH's post, but now I'm almost positive 8:23 PM
I just posted in the sign-up thread trying to fish for more information 8:23 PM
8:23 PM
Caledorn:
They're definitely not my friends, and CH's post leaves a huge question mark in the air, almost as if he knows something. But he hasn't read the lurker thread, so he's probably just speculating too - unless he knows who they are by other means of course 8:25 PM
YossarianLives:
I think he's just speculating. Now that he mentions it, it seems so obvious. And he has a knack for picking up on things 8:26 PM
Caledorn:
Yeah, I agree. Wonder who they are. Probably someone who has a thorn in Parkin's behind 8:26 PM
YossarianLives:
Now the trick is to find out, who hasn't posted in anyone's threads yet? 8:27 PM
It can't be Krill, thank god 8:27 PM
Or Seven 8:27 PM
Commodore is out, and Plako obviously 8:27 PM
Caledorn:
Krill would be a nasty opponent. It might be Sullla though? 8:28 PM
YossarianLives:
Could be Sulla. I've noticed he's fond of posting in the lurker thread for these greens-type games, and he's been absent so far from commenting on this one 8:28 PM
And of course, he is the original Locke 8:28 PM
Pindicator and NobleHelium have both posted in the lurker thread, too 8:29 PM
Any thoughts about my list of leaders? Did I leave anyone out? 8:30 PM
Caledorn:
Not that I could see. It's definitely the best leaders as far as I know 8:30 PM
I am clueless about the playstyle of playing Joao though 8:39 PM
So if we end up picking him, you need to teach me the style 8:40 PM
YossarianLives:
Well, I think at that point, it's just crank out Workers and Settlers like crazy, and hope to find a bunch of Gold or something to not crash the economy 8:42 PM
He's probably a lot weaker the higher the difficulty 8:43 PM
Caledorn:
Lol 8:43 PM
Best playstyle ever that! 8:43 PM
I know fin is a boring trait, but I have to admit I do prefer that as the main trait. Exp is definitely a very good trait though, so it's probably my second or thirs favourite. When I play SP I usually play a Spi leader though, so Mansa is one of my favourites 8:45 PM
We should probably pick something else than Mansa in this game for that reason itself 8:45 PM
YossarianLives:
I discounted Spi a lot in my choices, but it really is a good trait 8:49 PM
I don't focus on religions enough, so that takes away a lot of Spi's power 8:49 PM
Caledorn:
Spi is good for the non-GA civic changes too 9:03 PM
But if we can ensure we are in GAs whenever we need critical civic changes, Spi is not such an important trait 9:05 PM
YossarianLives:
Yeah, I feel like it mostly makes the game a little more convenient, but some well-timed ga's makes it less worthwhile 9:06 PM
Caledorn:
Exactly 9:06 PM
Are the old PB and PBEM maps available anywhere for download after the games are complete? 9:07 PM
I'd like to try a proper SP game with a good map. I could use the ISDG map of course, but I'm not too fond of such a big map 9:08 PM
YossarianLives:
I'm not sure. They have a thread where they kept track of all the maps, but the links have been broken ever since the site migrated 9:09 PM
Caledorn:
I'll look at that and pester someone if the links doesn't work. Thanks :-) 9:10 PM
YossarianLives:
Plako might be a good person to pester about that 9:10 PM
Caledorn:
Yeah, if he keeps his old maps around 9:31 PM

You're so nice smile Though I don't know if I would really be called "experienced"--If you don't count PB13 (which has barely started), my only RB experience has been with Gillette. (and speaking of, have you asked in the Admin forum about the screenshot tag not showing on tapatalk? I thought there was a fail-safe if javascript didn't work for the tag, presumably there could be a way to override it for tapatalk. We could always use more input smile )

It seems weird that Sullla would join another game, considering with PB13 recently he said he was swamped with playing the ISDG. What would draw him to this one, especially since pairing (by their admission) two "fairly experienced" players seems against the spirit of the game in some sense. Maybe he would just want to get revenge on Parkin tongue

If we assume Barteq and Haram are pseudonyms (even if we don't know who they are other than likely good players), how does that affect our diplo with them? Do we treat them like normal players, call them out on it, or somewhere in-between?

My only comment is that Sulla has recently stepped down in the ISDG.
Erebus in the Balance - a FFH Modmod based around balancing and polishing FFH for streamlined competitive play.

Interesting insight, Q, maybe he has more time for a new game after all? However, I agree that it is very unlikely that Spulla is Haram and Barteq. But, the more suspicion that is cast on them, the more likely they post somewhere to put the theories to rest tongue

I think we start just by treating them as regular new (but experienced) players. Unless we have some good evidence, I don't see how it could help us to call them out. Maybe we can find a way to use it to our advantage somehow during the game?

Now we have this other new team signing up? Or is it just one person? The plot thickens...

However, would Spulla see the suspicion? None of the suspicion has been in the main thread, just in ours (along with presumably Parkin's thread and the lurker thread).

I'm afraid I have to go and spoil the entire conspiracy. frown As usual, I am to be blamed - but you all knew that.

Maga_R is from Poland, and it's only natural that she has friends in the Polish Civ4-community. After a little intensive Googling, I discovered that Barteq is a user who is active in a diplo game on civilization.org.pl - and after digging a bit more around I found Haram on the same site as well.

Haram: http://civilization.org.pl/forum/ranking...b87d322d63 (at #52 on the leftside list at the time I write this)
Barteq: http://civilization.org.pl/forum/viewforum.php?f=434 (Several threads have Barteq as the author)

(can it really be a reunion if the game's still going? wink )

I didn't mean I had doubts about Caledorn hosting (as even though I knew sunrise wasn't hosting this game, I didn't know it was Caledorn specificically) as much as Maga_R organizing--he seems indecisive, and a player organizing the game raises some red flags, especially when I'm not familiar with that person.

I will just go ahead and assume you're talking about Maga_R and not me when it comes to the indecisiveness, and you can just blame me for it whether or not I am right. wink In any case, Maga_R is not a man, but one of these rare gemstones known as a female. Probably one of the very few females around in the Civ community. I think the indecisiveness comes from her feeling a bit insecure here on RB. As far as I know she has only participated in the ISDG on Team CFC, and the CFC Intrateam PB. Seeing as there is a fair bit of .. tension .. between RB and CFC, I think she's just a bit wary that she doesn't offend anyone here, and that we see that insecurity as indecisiveness.

Mystery probably solved, as written in my last post. I know, I suck for ruining the fun with this mystery ..

That's the good thing about being on team with Yossarian, since he knows much of RB history. I've been here before though, but didn't register until recently since I was reluctant about doing it while being the diplomat for Team CFC in the ISDG. At one point I just decided it didn't matter though, and I was very interested in some of the mods for Master of Magic - which is a game I love - so there I was. smile

I will go poke the admin forum about the tapatalk plugin. It would help immensely if I could see the screenshots in tapatalk. Thanks for the tip! smile

Oops--I knew Maga_R was a female, and I thought I fixed all the pronouns--I fixed it now smile

I'll gladly take more information over less, especially if it means we don't have to face players we know are tough smile

That's some awesome detective work, Caledorn! Thanks for figuring that out. Unfortunately, it looks like Haram has pulled out of the game frown I hope this doesn't slow down the start

I would assume Raptorous and Barteq would be teamed up by Maga_R--if we were still speculating on identity this would have been an interesting twist tongue
