Typical is around 10 per player on the low end up to 20 per player on the high end. I'm taking your comments to mean you want a fairly tight map with e.g. room for 10 cities per player and war options from late ancient / early classical onward.
I am not sure why you're wanting different things based on game speed btw.
I want a map with time to build a civilization and without getting choked the whole game then also not too separated that we never have to consider war. I want best of everything so I agree that you know more than me and trust you to make the map balanced.

Have any settings been decided?
I am tentatively interested as long as there is a good guarantee that we will average a turn a day at least. And ideally maybe a blitz session or two near the start

I'd be interested. I have a constraint in that I'll be out of the country from jan 26 to feb 1, with 2 of those days on a plane and I may not have access to a computer that plays Civ.

I guess nothing has been "really" decided. We just came to conclusion, that we want rather faster game with tight map - players starting at the same landmass. So far (if I'm tracking this correctly) we have 3 committed players:
eastway
Cheater Hater
me
With both of you it would make 5 players and that number would be fine for me (I don't want to have too complicated second game going).
AutomatedTeller, as for your 1 week absence, maybe you could find subplayer? In worst case 1 week brake wont be total disaster I guess, but I don't know what is the practice in such cases on this forum and what other players would think about it.

well, there's a fair chance that we won't be up and running right away anyway - it's a week from sunday ![wink wink](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/wink2.gif) That said, those first turns are pretty important, so if we want to start in the next couple of weeks, I should probably not play this one. Especially if you guys want to do some blitzing in the early game.

I expect to be occupied through sunday, but let me know when you have a final player count.

I am happy to wait and pleased that there is now interest. Can you explain blitz?
We should choose settings. I am not of a strong opinion so have that in mind.
I choose no barbarians, no trading, no diplomacy and map is up to Sevenspirits.

Thank you. Do not feel pressured into making this earlier than you are comfortable with.
