By the way, I wanted to suggest settling Numbers 1E of the currently marked position. I really hate settling off-river, so looking at our current empire makes me weep every time.
It's not just for the health: Levees are only possible if you are adjacent to a river, and I imagine the game will last long enough for them to become useful, assuming we don't get ourselves wiped out.
Moving 1E should (if I recall) grab a flood plain for the one it gives up.

Portugal i wholly support the inclusion of. Without them, we'd have been in a much tougher position earlier. They forced us into the hydra and i feel we owe them. Perhaps by returning an identical favour, we'll be even.
Going forward long term we have a strong bond with England and i don't think they would desert us. We have VERY strong bonds with Maya and Mali and both civ's would defend us to the last man. If we can get towards the endgame with the majority of remaining civs being Pat members- things are looking very good.
This is some pretty amazing diplomacy working through your way through both alliances without stepping on any toes! Have you had to disemble much or has it been pretty straight talking to get this all set up?

Haha Reagan, i've never seen that. Let's hope we're slightly more impressive!
Strike: There has certainly been an element of political talk. As Rome are our southern neighbour and technically we had betrayed them, i wanted to ensure that we wouldn't have Praets coming our way. I know they're busy with Portugal but if Portugal and Rome were both left out of PAT, they could easily join up which would make us and our fragile defences in an awkward position.
As such, i contacted Rome and refuted any indication that we had betrayed them. Asked for proof etc. They weren't really sure what to say as they had no clear evidence as we hadn't refused them tech. So i reminded them of our previous trade offer: HBR for IW. I got a sort of 'yeah like you'll trade us that' response. Well, as it happens, we desperately needed IW anyway as we were still without Ottoman contact so i decided to go ahead with this trade.
Portugal would obviously not be too happy but let's look at this logically: Rome were trying hard to found their iron to get praets. They wouldn't get *much* use out of HBR initially. I played it to Portugal that Rome were forcing the issue as a test of faith. Portugal agreed that we shouldn't give away our close relationship just yet so agreed we could make the trade with them. I intended to do it anyway. If Portugal hadn't agreed, i would have waited til turn cross-over and asked Byz to come online at the same time then pretended Byz gave it to them. Hard to blag but do-able.
Fun fun fun!

A barb AXE came out of the fog to threaten Deutronomy but i convinced Byz to re-direct their nearby chariot to wipe it out.
I began discussions with them about a potential trade down the line- horses for a period of time for maybe catapults? Just an idea i was thorwing out as we could really do with some mobile defenders.

I may be unable to actually log in for the next few days, but can you spare a few nuts-and-bolts details? I may not be able to critique you on your shadow-dancing on the national stage, but I could probably tell you why your Worker actions are not ideal. :neenernee
Oh, and I am sure that I can say with some degree of certainty: We need more military! And more Workers, too, probably. Can't remember how many cities are at happy limits, but anything that is should probably just stagnate by building Workers or something. Well, running Scientists would be better, I suppose, but blah blah blah.

OK, now that I'm officially back, I can try to catch up. Checked the e-mail briefly and I see that I have a lot of reading up to do. The deals are kinda complex, but I'll figure it out.
I'll check in-game later today.

Hey mate, be careful not to move the remaining units.
India have a chariot that is threatening our proposed city site. I'm going to try and sign a NAP for now. If they decline- i'll move the settler and bowmen pair SE to safety and hope they don't follow.
If India DO get frisky, well we have an axeman on their borders also.

Ok, quick report.
Byz are out and Rome have warned us they are most likely out. Worth nothing that we found out about Byz thru 3rd parties.
We have a 5turn NAP with india, just used to found our next city in peace in 2turns. Silver hooked up, gold soon. Your road is NEARLY built! 1 more tile.
PAT are also looking to give us G Library which is superb. We'll need to micro it in 1 turn tho. max overflow plus 4 chops. Care to have a looksee about where you think it should go Whosit?
