Well, the mistake is that BGN thinks Krill is trying to win and can win without taking Ruff. So BGN thinks he's thwarting a main rival's attempt to get ahead, not a desperate man's last sole hope.

Maybe Krill could have tried to get his point across by offering BGN 1gpt not the other way around?
Asking for 1gpt: I'm attacking you
Giving 1gpt: Please don't hurt me.

Wait, what? Is Krill actually considering doing that?

See post #1260 in his thread. I think he changed his mind otherwise he would have repeated it. I hope he actually does it to expose how silly no diplo games are.

Er, what?
I thought about it and I think it depends on the true motivation why no diplo is popular here now.
1. People don't like drama. For example NAP-stabs and the like. In which case no diplo is taking the easy way out and stopping the game from taking its true form (I which I think NAP-stabs would be very common).
2. They want to make this game about civ skill. I don't think this is the real answer.
I think in this game however they have another great reason: the huge number of civs. Krill's possible action would be a good example of how "no-diplo" harms anyway for different games. Someone getting handed 1000gpt for a misunderstand he's not involved in is silly.

Weve done plenty of diplo games here, they largely result in NAP build fests, with no stabs. Boring. Also, they require waay too much time at a word processor outside the game. I think this latter portion is why "rename your scout" diplo is often mentioned... some folks like a build fest, but almost* no one likes crafting careful tomes outside the game.
So "avoid drama" fails the historical test.
Also, imagine keeping regular relations with 33 (or even 22 remaining) players. Id run so far!
I do think no-diplo favors those with better mechanics... it also favors those of us with a life.

I like no diplo because I don't like talking to my opponents. What is the game's "true form" is up to debate. I certainly don't think negotiating NAPs is part of the game's true form, or else you'd be able to do it with AIs.

Getting handed 1000 gpt randomly wouldn't ether; which was my point.
The thing that makes NAPs overpowered is that you can wager your honor which is outside the gameboard. So is declaring a vendetta against someone. I think overtime standards would start to decay which would cause NAPs to go away. There's was at least one game were there was a NAP-stab before RB started doing no diplo.

I'd like games that allow just enough diplo to ask people to declare war or maybe stop trading with someone else (things you can do with the AI). I don't want to have to deal with diplomatic intrigue, but I'd like a level of communication above "????"
I'm just doing my best out here.
