Uncommonly Good: A Story of Elves

Gaspar Wrote:And I still haven't heard a commitment from anyone but you to a new game - I'd like to bring the WHOLE crew to a new game.
I’ve really enjoyed my first dedlurking/teamplaying experience. It seems to fit my routine of having time to think about CIV, but not the opportunity to consistently sit in front of the game for daily turns.

To do this again, I’d be looking for a turnplayer/team-leader who: provides lots to talk about; is receptive to advice; can handle the micromanagement; and doesn’t make silly moves. So far, I’ve not seen anything to convince me that Gaspar isn’t that man. heart I think that’s a long way of saying that I’m happy for the band to stay together band

However, THIS game is far from over….

Gaspar Wrote:The news of this turn involves Lizards. Our ruins at Hash Pipe finally spawned a 2nd Lizardman
I think the 1-2-3 Kid has about 90% odds to fend off the Lizard attack. I’m willing to admit there was some nervousness after my first calculation failed to include the barb’s city attack penalty, or our warrior’s fortify bonus, and things looked a bit more risky.smoke

Gaspar Wrote:…the worker stack 1W of the city where they built a road for no reason

<snip>

Sadly, still 3T until the city gets settled since we have no roads.
It might be time to devote a worker or two to road building duty. Best to get things linked up while there is not that much else to do. Hunters, settlers and workers will all appreciate the added mobility.

Gaspar Wrote:I'd really like to get the blocking city at the choke between us and the Hippus down soon, but that's going to have to wait until we have a hunter or two out.
It will be interesting to see if our first Hawk flight in that direction reveals how close the Hippus actually are. Distance maintenance on that city will be a fair few coins, but it’s about as far away from the capital as we’re planning to stretch at this point.

Gaspar Wrote:Also, at least 40% of me wants to beeline Esus. I understand we can't but I just felt you should know. smile
I look forward to next turn’s burning desire to build the Mercurian Gate. lol

Gaspar Wrote:GSage BIAFL.

Score increases: Hippus 12, Grigori 11, Elohim 6
C&D Report:
- For the second time in the game, the Grigori and Elohim have settled a new city on the same turn.
- The Adventurers also grew in their second city to put them firmly in second place in number of citizens. I can’t work out how their GNP is so low, when their cities are big and happy cap is high: huh
- Hippus finished a four turn Ancient Tech
- Nothing immediately obvious to suggest who the Sage belongs to, I’m afraid. GNPs remained pretty stable between turns.

Diplo:
I’m starting to see how dealing with Kyan can be a bit frustrating. During that chat, he has: potentially teased a little about Pyre antics (maybe it stayed intact after the Ogre popped out?); fished for info on when we’ll have Gilden; and, at best told a half-truth about his “culture” rate.

All of this is in good spirits and completely part of the game. It would be a little easier to take if he wasn’t winning frown…at this point devil

Opponents see the great person before the player who got it can do anything with it. It spawns at EOT, all opponents see it in the log, then next turn the player can do whatever with it. There can be no changes in the demographics based upon a GS that was just born.

Indeed, it is. And I think we can still compete as well - we haven't played poorly, just some bad luck. I think the point for me was that I've enjoyed the experience for this game so much more than others I've played that I don't think I'd be willing to sign up for one without this team. Its not necessarily that we're awesome, as it is that we're fun. smile

I think we can probably put Hash Pipe's worker stack on road duty for the short term, after one more cottage. That'll put us in position to work quality tiles to the happy cap, and the improved mobility will help overall.

Aye. I don't think we should settle it next, per se, but since Rawkking indicated Kyan had boxed him in a bit, we surely don't want the favor returned.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head re: Kyan. The difference this time around is that this isn't my first rodeo. PBEM12 and especially PBEM14, not to mention copious amounts of lurking have me pretty well disposed to handle the diplo situation. While I can't promise being able to get what we want when we need it, I can absolutely promise to not fall for any traps of giving away state secrets without reciprocation. Makes you really appreciate Sandover, actually, who just comes right out and demands it. He also reciprocates in kind. Kyan definitely... evades the truth. The bit from a couple chats ago about Krill barely helping seems to contrast with Krill's current signature, no?

That said, I'm not minding dealing with Kyan this game at all. He's a decent enough guy as a human being, and he's a knowledgeable player so he's interesting to chat with. You just have to keep your guard up 150% of the time.

Anyway, we have a turn, so here's the skinny on that...
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

11 points for the Clowns. We were actually the big movers with 30 for a tech and Hash Pipe's 2nd ring land points.

I'll start with international goings on. Kyan's Lizard/Tiger pair moved out of sight and the Lizard moved off the ruins away from the city. I believe I've heard that barbs are more likely to go after teams higher on the scoreboard, so perhaps he's after the Hippus? I'm ok with it really, we've no shot at Form of the Titan, so until we have a Hunter or two, I'm not all that excited to farm XP. Nicolae also moved a warrior in view - you'll not the Bronze promotion. No doubt we'd struggle to give Nicolae much trouble right now. Good thing we still have a 32T NAP.

In domestic matters, Calendar is in, so we make the revolt to Agrarianism. I debated appending Religion to this, as we'll get WotF in less than 10T, but since I expect to train a fair few units in the short term, I figured Nationhood would still hold more value for a while.

With Calendar in, the three workers near the Capital ganged up to complete the cotton plantation. I decided rather than going right into a warrior and having an angry mouth costing maintenance until the plantation completed, I'd start work on the next Settler first, then switch to a warrior to grow after the Plantation completes. The workers near Hash Pipe moved to put down a cottage on the grassland tile SW of the city center, after which they'll go about throwing down some roads to allow easier traversal between cities for our 2-movers. I moved Lanny back out to cover them, more as an attempt reduce any temptation for Nicolae than precisely to expect him to actually save the workers from anything, particularly as we've discovered we get a turns notice on any Lizardmen spawning.

Methinks that Sage might have been Kyan's... banghead

Here, here!
I'd be happy to follow the team to a new game. smile

Some thoughts on the game:
- It's possible that the Sheaim warrior picked up Bronze Weapons from a lair; but it's much more likely that Nicolae has access to Copper.
- I will reiterate my preference for more Warriors out of the capital and an Elder Council in City #3.
- And just to make sure we don't forget: we should definitely build a Hawk before a Hunter once that Hunting Lodge is complete.

Another solid, if unexciting, turn of building and growth.

The lizard's behaviour is interesting. I hope that doesn't mean the Hippus are closer than we think.

I'd strongly guess Nicolae has BW. Between all the jungle and his UU, there's a very low possibility BW wasn't prioritized. As far as the EC, I'll probably bow to said pressure, but let's see what the game throws at us first. And definitely, Hawk is the first post-Lodge build, followed probably by a pair of Hunters then we'll see from there.

Speaking of weird Lizard behavior, turn 69...

After god knows how many turn of not spawning a Lizard, the ruins spawns 2 in 3 turns. This forces us to give up on the new cottage for now. I wonder if this one will attack us or move after someone else. Also, the original lizard decided to just hang out on the Burnt Forest. Bizarre.

Score: Kyan lost 6 points, some -1 pop event I assume, Hippus get 11, no other changes.

Cotton plantation is hooked, raising the happy cap empire-wide, so the capital swaps to a 2T warrior before resuming the Settler. Previous settler now in place, will settle next turn. On the subject, I'd really love some lurker (dedicated or otherwise) suggestions on songs/albums about smoke. The sooner the better, since I don't yet have a name picked out for the city we'll be settling next turn.

I don't know any. Unless you count ones that seem like they might have been inspired by smoke, like this one

But I am indeed very glad to see Hash Pipe growing to size 5 at EOT - three more to go for the current cap. And of course glad to see city 3 nearly ready and city 4 in the pipeline; for that matter, glad to see Chronic growing (I hope you'll have a cottage ready to grow onto?)

No substantial comments from me tonight.

Paradise City. "Where the grass is green" was originally "where the grass is good".
I have to run.

Don't know if it has already been said, but I demand a city called Cypress Hill.
