Until you have zero tactical decisions to make hang in there and do your best. When it is down to whips and hitting the red button I guess it's ok to retire.

ok so i feel like there's little point in me logging in anymore. I threw my stack at one of gavs to try and weaken it as much as possible but now its completely gone and i'm still losing 1-2 cities per turn. I feel like Adrien will probably resume hostilities with me quite soon also to prevent Gav from absorbing all of my land. There's nothing really left for me to do but whip myself into the dirt and shuffle some muskets around to try and slow gav's 3 stacks of curs.
i'd really like to be able to just set to AI but i know having AIs in the game kinda sucks.

as far as a post mortem goes - i think Krill really overextended in his war with Gav and in doing so I feel like I was probably doomed from the start. When I took over the vast majority of our cities were missing key infrastructure (libraries, courthouses) and the cities were also spread out over a really huge chunk of land that we just didn't have the military to be able to cover. My plan once I took over was basically, retreat as gracefully as I could and consolodate on the good number of cities I had. A lot of the cities were in really good spots and I think Krill obviously played the early game pretty well. I just needed time to turn that into a strong economy and hopefully, stay out of any wars.
However, AI diplo definitely made that last part really difficult. In the pitbosses I play in at Badgame, it's always full diplo and this was the first AI diplo pitboss i'd played in. If I were in a similar position in a badgame pitboss I feel like I could have 'talked' my way out of any incoming threats or failing that, call in allies to protect me. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do that and ended up with, at one point, all 3 of my neighbours invading me at once! Once Adrien joined HAK and Gav, that was when I knew it was all over. While I don't think I had a good chance of repelling both Gav and Hak, I feel like I could have at least stayed with the middle of the pack and maybe made it a little further in this game, but Adrien just stretched me way too thin.
I managed to figure out how to ask someone to go to war with people, and made a few metal for metal trades with Ichabod. Unfortunately he didn't wardec as soon as I would have liked (I'm guessing he wasn't in position) and in any case dtay wardecced ichabod pretty soon after that so he wasn't able to do much.
anyway, it was fun for a little bit and i may join another RB pitboss at some point, but as far as PB27 goes - i reckon i'm done!

I was going to log into this civ to end turn and then pause it after doing the reload, but I don't see the password anywhere so couldn't.

Boak, if you're interested in playing another game I'm trying to sub out my civ in PB32. I'm very middle of the road. It's labeled as a casual game but there is still plenty to do if you're interested. I'm just short on time these days.

Yeah, it was definitely a tough spot you took over. The aggressive culture bomb on Gav probably determined a lot of what was going to happen next and there wasn't much you could affect with your actions. I think if Krill had held off on that for a more defensive one you'd have had a lot more options.
Good job playing the game out.

im going to be extremely busy over the next few weeks, i've just finished building a house so I'll be moving/painting/etc. prob not the best time for me to jump into another pitboss.
i'll definitely try to join another RB pitboss in future though.

Boak, just want to thank you for taking over when I had to leave at short notice. You're right it was workload issues; my job doesn't really fit into the 9-5 pattern and whilst I've been away someone I was responsible for has died via hanging, just to put this into perspective. I know I made the right choice to leave, but it's one I should actually have made much sooner. You played this position out as well as could be hoped and I agree with your post mortem. If I had handed this game over after TW was down to the last city it would have been better for everyone.
Regarding a more thorough post mortem, I don't think this game deserves really deserves one other than to say I think that a lot of mistakes were made. Should re-rolled the pick, should have gambled on not settling metal versus Egypt, shouldn't have settled a third city that crippled expansion. Those decisions meant that by T100 game was basically over. The culture bomb was just hubris, but I don't think I'm wrong in saying that Gavagai could have just run straight through even at that point. But again, hubris.
But that's still gotta be the best HA rush on RB ever.

Belatedly catching up on this thread.

Hey, I'm not quite that old! I was there '95-'98 (mixed was '92 onwards); we did most of our drinking in the Student Union bar (more pool tables) ... did that ever slide into the river like they kept promising?
