Gold gifting has happened in the past, and happens in the present. I can't even count how many times gold has been begged for and gifted to upgrade units following a war declaration, and there is no coherent argument why that is OK, and gifting gold in the belief it speeds up a players tech to a military unit by a couple of turns isn't. note I'm saying that intention matters on this. There is an interesting flavour in the difference between a gpt and a lump sum gift though, because how would SD be able to communicate this as a loan whilst also trying to convey the point that it's for Yuri to tech to Chemistry? And would it make any difference if Yuri could use the spare gold to upgrade units to frigates?

The lurker's burrow

I know it happens occasionally but it's usually a playier dying begging 1st or 2nd for gold. Not 3rd giving gold to 2nd. We probably should speak up more on gold gifting more often though you are right.
Anyone else think this doesn't qualify? If not should post in yuris and sd thread.
I think the rules here are a mess.
This game is a bit worse because ginger clearly wasn’t interested in updating the start post (where you should place the rules). Only Tarkeel keeps his start post in the PB81 up to date. 3 others are semi useful, because the set the rules at game start or have a link towards the rules. This besides, neither unit gifting nor Gold giftig is forbidden by the rules in the first post. And I do think Gold giftig has it’s place (like unit gifting for researched units). But I agree, that both gifts are too much at this stage of the game. And we have forbidden the units from Bing, so we should forbid the gold from SD. Still, I do question a bit under what mandat do we act ?
Opposite opinions here. I think the gold gift is acceptable - it's actually really reasonable from SD's point of view that his best use of it to oppose Scooter is to help Yuris get to frigates.
Same for Bing's caravels - they can be put to use better against Scooter if one player in Yuris is directing all of them in concert with his other ships. Barring any actual rules for the game, I think both should be allowed. Neither of them is someone kingmaking or ragequitting or spite - they're both making real efforts.
I believe that this is not such an egregious situation that lurkers should feel the need to step in, and it should be discussed after the game.
Free 100gpt seems aggregious to me. Gold and unit gifting have been banned so long it's assumed by most game staterters. I know I used to put these in my "normal rules section" but I think I stopped that multiple games ago because it seemed unnecessary. We specifically had to allow for the diplo game.
I'm with Scooter that I can't really believe there was any disagreement about this. We haven't allowed gold gifts in how many games for any situation close to this? Like how long has it been? Imagine if Yuris had one because he was being fed gold and Scooter found out after the game? Now I don't think that will happen, but that shouldn't matter. Waiting until after wasn't the correct call. I was traveling so wasn't able to head this off sooner.
So the question is now what? I think Yuris gifting the gold back for now makes the most sense. Either SD or Yuris breaking would require a war deck ruining trade routes so I think just negating it makes the most sense.
I think that’s the cleanest solution; Yuris will probably have to propose to make sure he has the 100gpt available.
Bing’s was an oversight, which is a risk with got deals. Now he’s been reminded I would expect him to correct.
Gotta say, Bings was a classic Bing moment and exactly what I expected. I don't think Yuris should refund that one at all, FWIW.
