This is what the help section of my university's network says:
Quote:Many games use Gamespy's customisable server browser, embedded into the game itself, to search for multiplayer servers. Unfortunately we have been unable to get their server browser to function on ResNet. You will need to identify the IP of the server (running on one of the standard ports for the game) you wish to connect to by other means, and then connect to that IP directly using the necessary option in the game's server browser (often called Direct Connect or Connect to IP).
I guess if someone else hosts I may be able to do it. Hopefully anyway!

Still no luck so may have to quit again *sigh* - this is annoying.
Krill (if you see this), how did you manage to let me connect to you when I was on the uni network when we played the RB Mod test games against the AI before Easter (if you remember) ?

GG Bob. Man, Holkans give you absurdly good early map control, which helps to deny scouting and let you develop in peace.

It also helps when the only copper is third ring from the capital and the iron is in a terrible food-free spot :P But yeah, well played. Trying to do anything with Gilgamesh on a map with only three food resources (two of them in an awful ice location) is painful. Having only chariots and archers while your opponent pickets the map with holkans is outright torture.

Other way around, tundra copper was a good 8 tiles away from the capital, iron was only 3 tiles away. I think going early HBR was a mistake on your part, I had a resourceless spear UU, should have gone for IW and settled between the iron and rice. Having a +3 food tile would have immensely boosted your growth. Map control also let me settle forward and take your fair share of the land. You really should have stomped my sentries with elephants, if you had done that, there was no way I'd have been able to re-sentry those hills. Shame you were killing me in culture, if I left it going a bit longer, I would have lost the tiles adjacent to Chichen Itza, and there was no reasonable way for me to kill Angkor Thom.
I don't know why I was building more Holkans, should have made more War Elephants.
Edit: I think the biggest imbalance wasn't the traits, while Exp > Cre and ind > Pro, I'd say it was because your hunting start meant it was impossible to put any pressure on me with your starting warrior.

Use direct ip instead of gamespy. Someone (and I think it might have to be you) hosts the game and the others join that players ip.

Hey I used to play Civ III a ton back in the day but I haven't any since. I just recently obtained a copy of Civ IV and it seems pretty cool. If anyone would like to try a mutiplayer game let me know, that would be cool.

Woah, first post, first MP game, and you already want to start stomping pubbies. Welcome!
FYI everyone plays with the Beyond the Sword expansion, it fixes some balance issues (and adds new ones). It's still worth getting as it's the default used by everybody. Also, check out the Civ4 war academy pages, it's a good way to get a grasp of the mechanics and strats that many people use. If you have any questions, fire away.
