I'm all for a rational diplomatic worldview and boring diplo-speak. I'm just having some fun. Lighten up.

Yeah Boldly, try to be careful with 4B, that would be rather rude to do "in someone's general direction." And possibly illegal as well?
Anyway I'm in the "let's have fun with this" camp. Obviously I won't be going anywhere near our official diplomatic correspondence but what's a little taunting among rivals? As long as we aren't too mean spirited about it what's the big deal? That someone will read a post here in a year and come away with those guys a Realms Beyond are such jerks, they dropped a Sin City reference on me and then followed it up with Monty Python, so ruuuuude! this is the Internet, you get trolls beside your cute kittens and civ forums sometimes, and it doesn't matter. Just have fun with it! I'm all for making fun and light-hearted posts, but we have to be careful what we make fun of.
The trouble here is that social impressions often feed into a positive feedback cycle - ie it's mutually reinforcing. If "RB are jerks", then everything we post publicly will be filtered through that, and can easily be used to reinforce that perception. The one truly safe target we can make fun of is ourselves, and that can be used to combat the above tendency. But I'd rather celebrate great play than mock bad play.

I should leave typos in my posts more often...
Lighten up. I'm not Scooter sending our team's official correspondence. Have some fun within our team with this stuff. If an opportunity presents itself for a potshot later on, and we are unconcerned by diplomatic fallout in that specific, insular circumstance, sure, send a "Hey Sugar" message. I'm not advocating for throwing the game for the sake of sticking it to the other teams with a meme. Some of us are starting to sound like soulless automatons. Lighten up. Well, trouble is that tone and level of intent hardly comes through in posts like this. And I was mostly commented on Sullla's eagerness to use French taunting again later in the game.

I think we're heading down a line of discussion that's not very productive. Let's get back to the actual message from We Play Civ:

Let's ask about any chance of trade routes. DO they know of the river that we think leads into the sea, ask if they have a city on said sea. Ask if they'd be interested in Open Borders. You can even role play a bit and say our merchants yearn to mix with those of other nations.
We could also say our people have struggled under the weight of heavy rocks and stone but the result has been worth the effort. Our people pray at obelisks and are better for it. Or something roleplay-y. They really didn't leave us a lot of openings to discus things. All they've really done is confirmed what we told them, roleplayed about their civ's life and asked us to do the same.

Of this, 31000 comes from pop and tech, and the rest from units and buildings. I think they've built a barracks earlier, and they might have finished a totem pole by now, but the rest - 38000 - comes from units. Considering we made contact with WPC's borders, and they don't know where our cities are, I suspect that we're not their target. But you never know. What do you guys think? What's our hazard report? |
