I have to point out that a lot of the settings that have become standard on RB are also settings that make it harder to catch up to a runaway. Tech trading, spies, and diplomacy are all possibilities for catching up, and banning or restricting those will benefit whoever gets into the lead first. With spies and limited diplomacy, they might have a little more room to catch up in this game than they would otherwise.

No, I agree with this as well. Ideal situation is a fair setup (i.e. players of roughly the same skill level with our "typical" start.) If you can't achieve that, I think adding in things like diplo and spies is a good idea. I really don't mind limited diplo regardless of settings - no talking to opponents whatsoever makes the game less fun I think, like you're playing in a vacuum. Full diplo is also no fun for the players, though. See PBEM14, which the lurkers loved and the players hated for an example.

Yeah I like limited-diplo too. I thought the public diplomacy thread for this game was a great idea, it just fell apart because of the stupid double-move stuff. Full diplomacy definitely seems like a setting that's way more fun for lurkers than for players.

Funny I was expecting Azza to pipe up earlier about this - I thought HAK had mentioned his land bridge a few times. If the others needed another excuse not to march their armies far away to attack LP, they've got it now - although I'd love to see a bunch of galley stacks converge from both sides.
Any more info on what Lewwyn is planning?

nobody knows anything about what Lewwyn, slowcheetah, meinz, or moogle are doing. they don't update .
meinz and slowcheetah have been in a war forever. last we heard meinz took a city, but that was 2 months ago, lol. who knows what the status is now. closest we get are guesses from yuri and pindicator.
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

LP should move his island city 6, that way the fish will be first ring. The difference is he loses a junk tundra hill, and settles on a flat grass instead of a flat plains.
It's not like you're going to cottage those tiles. It gets the city growing something like 18 turns earlier.
(Is it weird that I'm always criticizing LP's play, and that he should be doing things differently? Still, his read of the metagame tends to be his strength).

Nah, its the price of being one of the few who update.

I haven't read his thread in months, but FWIW I wouldn't make the same decisions LP has made, city locations, tech choices. Being critical doesn't mean being negative.

You know, if I was HAK, and averse to infiltrating with my GSpy, I would probably walk Speaker all the way around Parkin's territory, map it all out, and post it in the Dogpile Thread. I'd wager that would prompt some action against LP - a major win for him since as his neighbor he potentially can benefit the most from Parkin getting hurt.
