Interesting! That early 30s second city seems to be an invariant. How does farming the wines over that grassland work? Given that's a shared tile it's a prime candidate to get a town by t115 at the latest. Actually, I'm pretty sure that riverside hill gets a cottage too.

Here's what I'm thinking, generally. Now I know the beakers are only like a quarter of a a proper capital's output, but still...

Going "pure" food, Agriculture->Hunting->AH->BW->Wheel->Pottery. It's pretty icky; bored workers get bored.
I consider five cities by turn 50 a bare minimum requirement; the problem is we're really suffering for beakers here; forget religion.
I think the Agriculture-BW might actually have to be best.

No game was perfect, but nor were those opens cripplingly slow. Even with this awesome capital, I can trade a city for some actual economy if needed. Really, really want to get Hinduism and a crack at Oracle if at all possible. Soooo beaker limited, though.
Ergo, let us continue to mine the Agri-BW path with the farmed wines option; Hunting is logical next but perhaps it can even be waived for earlier Pottery. Barring any silver/gold/gems/furs spotted, we're going to need cottages ASAP.

You actually raise an interesting point about the turn dates for various cities. The only time that you really have to really be focussed on turn numbers is T30 for the first settler and if you are IMP you have to consider the options. IMP can aim for T20 settlers and T30 for a second settler under specific strategies and land. Everyone else, well, being slow only matters if you don't have anything to show for it.

Yeah, that t30 mark is a pretty big deal; but beyond that settlers are quick to make and the biggest deal isn't so much the exact date/number, but what you've got goal-wise.
Now "x cities by turn y" is a pretty good way to set an expansion goal, certainly, and I know me well enough to know I do need concrete goals to chase. The best looking start above is PB16's, and it's with a similarly souped-up capital. However, I think I actually could have done better at a slightly slower pace there.
One thing I need to consider: Lake tiles. Third city might take some advice from the good doctor...

So 4 farms at size 20, or 0 farms and that setup with only one spec at breakeven

Wow, that's a hell of a spot where the scout's standing. 3fp, 6 grass and a grass silk, a river plain hill and a grass hill. First ring crabs, 5 coast and two lighthouse lakes
I'm salivating, one metal resource in that BFC and it would be just amazing.
