( SPOILERS ) A Minnow Among Sharks- Superdeath takes another swing at it

I'm obviously spoilt, and you are playing, but I'm going to challenge you on some of your points:

Mali isn't played often, and I don't think anyone has pulled off a rush with them before? Not in a PB, possibly in a PBEM on a tighter map? I've seen it done, and done it in MP games in the past, but rushing on RB is almost seen as verboten. Have you had much experience in MP games before PB38?

Quote:Third, i want to kindly ask the mapmakers.. no more duel islands please? ( im in firm belief that its a 2 person island, as last i checked Compin STILL haven't met anyone else meaning they will eventually profit very much from this balls to the walls skirm rush.[quote]

You knew this was a Big and Small, standard size map with low sea level. You knew that the map was going to be random except for balanced starts. You could have rolled some random maps to see what came up. You would note that 2 person islands are a natural formation with those map settings. I could go on, but the only real, honest and fair answer I can give you is: No. This is what you asked for.

[quote]Now, i made some mistakes.. the biggest one is likely not just settling ON the copper since he choked the two hills. However, i still was in the belief at that time that there HAD to be someone nearby that could punish Compin for the huge amount of aggression.

Why must there be a third person nearby? How do you know there isn't one right now? You asked for a random map, why are you trying to metagame a random map?

Quote:Im now in the process of thinking how best to be annoying. I switched the cap to a settler since there isnt a chance in hell that he wont smash the copper his half of the turn, and i plan on hoping to land the axe next turn in Doubtfire to prevent it from falling if he doesnt get stupid combat luck again. IF he ends up having another like, 2+ units next to the city next turn ill just use the axe to take the new barb city that screws with my pig/gold/crab city. ( its got crab-crab-crab-pig... so not bad, and i dont REALLY need the gold if i dont have any hope nor prayer of winning now. ) From there, i just build archers in the cap and ferry what i dont need over to the "new" cap that will be the crab city. From THERE, i just spam archers/workers/settlers + some galleys to hopefully keep him from ferrying over his shit.

Lurkers want blood etc etc, good to not throw in the towel. Find new "Win" conditions etc.

Quote:Lastly, i want to apologize to you Chumchu, as i was hoping to get to use Spiritual to some extent and was looking forward to having a dedlurker around to help micro ect.

FWIW, you didn't pick unreasonably IMO. This situation is the consequence of other decisions as you have already commented.

No need to apologize.

I think that now is the time to find new goals. We are probably choked until numids now and longer if he gets spears. Whip the axe if you are in right place on the turn and prepare to migrate.

We should defend the old cities and force him to take them dearly but not invest anymore on the mainland.

I played many many many games when the Gamespy lobby was working. I never won any of those, as it was either Pangaea and i was rushed, or i was severly outplayed on a water map. Played a few games with some friends, and i win 99% of those games but i dont like to count those as it includes ai and my friends are prince level players. Other than those, no.

I suppose, although most of the Big N Small maps i rolled ( about 8 maps or so ) the duel islands had the players a fair amount more apart. But its all water under the bridge now.

Im assuming there isnt a 3rd person nearby, as Compin has no reason to continue putting EP into me if there was. And, at turn 50 i would expect someone as good as Com/pin to have scouted most of the remaining land to determine that im the only threat.

Thanks for the reply Krill, it does help knowing how my way of thinking could be changed in various ways/how not to screw up the next game.

Whipping the axe would have just made... i think a warrior? because he has the 2nd part of the turn and would have either cut the copper, or burned the city. and... as if on cue:

Im figuring we have 3 turns till he arrives on the gates of the cap. Ill sail the axe to the cap, chop a forest with the worker and get ready to whip an archer. Hoping those barbs get to 2pop soon... Im just sad that i wont be able to break my shitload of archers record from PB38 this game..

The Aftermath... Even worse than i had feared. Compin got near GODLY fucking luck.. and didnt lose a single skirm attacking at 27.7 odds Twice,  and 34.7 odds once. banghead  I expected to kill at least 1 skirm per archer roughly, but thats just absolute dogshit. So, i landed the axe in the forest so they cant start marching to the cap as easily, which buys my worker the extra turn to chop a forest into a settler, I decided to whip the archer now, and have the overflow go into the settler.. which with the chop and the axe that ill pick up.. i should have 2 new cities before the cap falls. crazyeye

Demos- still 2nd in power.. Kinda odd considering i have just 1 axe, and 2 warriors.. unless galleys are that much power? -

Even though im doubtful that he would have kept it, it autorazed and i gain a little bit of satisfaction at that-

Soo many damaged/heal/promoting skirms, Blood god why do you hate me so?

So hows everyone else's monday going? bang

That was some epic bad luck in the fight to add insult to injury.

We be pirates now. (Let's hope that there is a big archipelago)

ARR That we be!

Compin moved up their own axe, and with our bad luck i didnt wanna risk them throwing the axe+ skirm at our only axe. I have big plans for this axe, as it will be the one to capture the barb city! Hoping to ferry it over there in 2 turns or so, and it should begin eating away at the barb warriors ( hope they dont have archers yet ) Our potential southern city on the hill ran into an issue.. our scouting workboat found another fish that cannot be worked if we settle on the hill... So, im going to settle off the hill, as the slightly added defense means little because if we let Compin get that close to our cities, that means they outteched us to a better navy and we officially are done. So, basic plan is to pump out another archer, and finish the settler. Settler will finish hopefully in a good timing with the galley returning from dropping off the axe to be ferried away to the fish. Now.. do we continue scouting with the workboat, OR do we save it to be used on a fish once our settler gets there?

I would save the workboat as we are on one city atm with a huge need for units, workers, settlers etc. The faster that city becomes productive the better.

Well, i forgot to take a screenshot of the actual battlefield.. but nothing too exciting, he moved his axe up, and his 4/5 stack of skirms up, and fortified his lead skirm. Next turn he can hit the cap.. i have 2-3 archers 2 warriors an axe. He can only hit next turn with 1 skirm, and 1 axe though so i figure i have at least 2 turns before he uses his godly luck to win without taking any losses. In this time ive decided to halt the settler to get yet another archer out, so that i can send the axe on his kill-duty sooner and without fear. I complete an archer EOT, which gives me an even number of defenders vs attackers atm. However looking at the power graph+ the demos for top power.. Compin has likely decided to just go all out on taking the cap asap, unless they just got ironworking or HBR? Pretty large leap in power in the demos.

Compin continues to make more units. He moved two chariots into view, and im guessing this has to be 99% of his current army. 6 skirms, 1 axe, 2 chariots. vs 1 axe, 3 archers, 2 warriors. I can whip an archer next turn, but he can attack that turn with all of that if he chooses. Im hoping the game makes up for my shit luck last time, and lets my stack live. I currently have the galley checking out the barb city + its loaded with the worker because im spiteful and dont want compin to have another worker if they do manage to capture the cap. If everything goes down ok in the next 2turns ill go ahead and keep working on the settler, if not its endless archers. If he gives me time to fortify another archer in the cap, ill happily move the settler to the island down south, THEN ill feel comfortable moving the axe to take care of the barb city.

This could be the beginning of the last few turns for us this game, or the beginning of a new age of pirates! Let the dice flow, and may the odds be ever in MY favor.
