What about extending the timer to something really long (150h?), but then not accept any pauses unless specifically asked for in the tech thread (and with a promise to play within a certain time) ?

I checked in, to think about moves. I'm trying to play all in one go. Should have time to devote the couple of hours in one go to it tonight.

How's this coming along? I don't intend to check this game frequently but I'd like my responsibility for the week to be fulfilled by tomorrow and I'm waiting for you to play. I don't know if it is strictly necessary for me to wait but until I have a firm grasp on the game situation I'm going to keep the order I had initially with neighboring civs.

I crashed out of 35 last night and didn't get the laptop back until earlier. Hopefully will be able to do shortly.

Done a few hours ago. Since the forum update I can't use the phone to update.

Well, it's been another week--at the very least, does everyone know we're back running? BGN should be able to play since REM has played, I believe dtay needs to replay (can you confirm?), but what about Barteq and DZ? I don't believe we've seen either of them since the relaunch with me and BGN.

Yeah, could everyone confirm they at least know the game is (supposedly) running?
If people aren't able/willing to play, then at least that information will help us in deciding what to do.
Optimally everyone would do their best to improve the relative position of their civ to the bitter end. If this was the case we could still have a fairly dynamic game with civs rising and collapsing and quite interesting elements of non-diplo diplomacy coming into play. Now I'm just wondering whether we'll even see another turn and figuring out for myself who's in a better position to win from REM and me... I'm even at the point where I'm considering whether it'd just be possible to set down some ground rules on other civ contact, turn everyone else to AI and have REM and me fight it out for the first place. It wouldn't be entirely comparable to eight active players, it wouldn't be fair to CH/dtay who still might have a very outside chance of pulling off an upset or plako who's probably been the best at playing his turns, but at least it'd be something...

I'm playing the current turn now. I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed that this turn still hasn't rolled. It's been two weeks since I played the first turn here and I had arranged for Xenu to cover for me while I was away from home for several days. But there was no need.
Dtay/Barteq, if you guys aren't going to play say so. I don't want to waste my time on meaningless turns but I'd like to see this game finish if possible.
Here is my suggestion: If we have not heard from dtay/barteq by the end of the day we take extreme measures to see the game finish. I see two contenders in the lead and a lesser pack of could maybe but probably not contenders further back, which includes Dtay. If he doesn't care to log in and move this forward then he doesn't need to worry about a win if the top dogs slog it out enough to pull each other back. Barteq is less relevant IMO.
SO: If dtay doesn't stop by to play his turn today, I'm requesting a benevolent lurker to pop in and play his turn. I don't care if it's simply just push the big red button as long as there is a gentleman's agreement among the two contenders that they not take advantage of the situation. REM/taoto, what are your thoughts? You guys really are the only opinions that should matter at this point IMO.

Should put this in Civ General, I'm not sure how many people still regularly read this forum.
