I hate these supercramped setups, I want at least 50t before I have to be super annoyed at any opponent.

Yeah, I did not expect this short of distance when I hear it would be cramped. What are we? 9 tiles apart?

So I looked back at the last turn's save, and we have met Commodore anyway. He must have moved his scout in and out of the fog. Good thing I remembered what the F4 screen was

I still need to decide on which tech we go next, but here's the turn:



Dazed found us from the southeast



And Commodore found us some time in the fog. He probably saw our scout and ducked back; or he started going south from the start and hit our borders. Either way, we can expect he knows about the silver and how cramped we are.

In the end, we stuck with our guns and are going Pottery. We'll grab AH after BW, and that will have AH line up nicely with the turn we whip our settler.

and lay a cottage while we grow to 4
then whip the settler

except for when commodore settles on our copper

im generally of the opinion
that you play the first 50t (30-whatever on quick) to optimize your civ
and if someone calls you on that and you lose early
well, thats better than sucking for 175t before you get killed because you played your open like a wimp
easy for me to say, since i didnt just get eliminated early
but id rather be you in pb19
than say, dtay

yeah, there was a lot of bad stuff goign on in 19. i had barb luck to rival yours for starters
and if copper is in as bad a spot here as it was there then we're screwed anyway
i'm going to stick to the plan
my thinking: play to your strengths
and FIN is our strength

Well, I think Simmons wrote something about Jackson having a bounceback big year. So I'd suspect that might have caused your trade offer.

Turn 008

Dazed declared war on us and used it to move through our territory. He offered a cease fire, which is what you do when you really don't want to offer peace at all -- perhaps he's worried his scout has run into a dead end? -- so I'm not going to treat it like a peace deal at all. But unless he went warrior first (in hindsight, that would have been a fun opening) then it doesn't matter what kind of peace he has.

Just as long as he stays off of my lawn.
