sunrise089 Wrote:The above though I don't think is representative of our RB MP series' for two reasons. First, on the positive side we've been pretty resilient and long delays have generally been overcome. On the negative side, but as a testament to the level of skill in these games, I think adding in an AI would be game-breaking for balance terms. Ok, fair enough. I guess we'll cross that bridge when/if we come to it anyway.
Couple more questions... is there a minimum number of players we're looking for, or will we just run with what we've got when Christmas rolls around?
And the same question I asked before (repeated because I haven't seen an answer yet)... when will the actual game be starting?

We don't have an exact date yet. When we're ready! LOL.
Probably first week of January. We still need a mapmaker.
It is OK if you go without a teammate. But don't take offense if I assign one of the dedlurkers to you just because you are new around here. It might be a double standard, but if sunrise or Rego sign up solo, I think by have proven they will be here for the conclusion (unless they get taken out PB2 style).

Probably first week of January. We still need a mapmaker. Fair enough. Only issue is that I'll be away without internet access from January 4-16 here (3-15 in the US). Thus the ideal situation for me would be to start mid-January. If we're likely to start earlier than that, then from my perspective it'd be good to at least play the first turn or two before I go, since I'd rather decide on the pretty important decisions of my capital location and first 10-15 turn plan myself than have a sub handle that for me.

Maybe this is a silly question, but what exactly defines a "dedlurker"? I think I've got the general idea but want to make sure I'm not getting confused.
At any rate it shouldn't be a problem if you want to do that, although there are quite a number of other games that I have played right through over the past five or so years, so I don't think you have much to worry about.

Dedicated lurked. These games generally involve a player keeping up a detailed thread so that forum readers can follow the game. A dedlurker is someone who will only read your spoiler thread, so they can discuss decisions with you or take over in your absence and be up to date on your civ without knowledge about other civs that they shouldn't know as a turnplayer.

Right, I figured as much. Just wasn't sure if it was an acronym for "dedicated" (as I suspected) or something else entirely (like "dead lurking" - lurking without commenting perhaps?? Or not lurking at all??).
In any event, that sounds fine. Might even be able to find someone myself for the job (although others are welcome to "dedlurk" too)... I'll see.
Are many people from this site taking holidays over the extended Christmas-New Year period? I guess I figured quite a few people might be away during early January, so starting mid-January wouldn't be as much of a problem... but now that I think about it, other people here might have freer holiday schedules than me.

Excellent. I liked PB2 and I think players liked PBEM7.

I thought the Pitboss2 map was pretty cool too (as well as the MTDG2 map). Would be happy to have you involved in making the map for this game, Krill.
