Anyone want to take bets on how often Lord Parkin will have said "at this site" before the game is over?

I'd like to see some of the veteran thoughts around here on the selections. From my admittedly noobish POV, it seems there was some going on in a few of them.
Personally, off the top of my head, I really like Izzy of England and Shaka of Zulu.

How many teams did they end up with in the end?
Looking forward to see the map.

Izzy was always #1 leader IMO, but Washington is by no means bad.
My favourite from a synergy perspective is Cathy of China, by far, just for the fun value of Pavilions and Creative. De Gaulle of Egypt is actually mostly anti-synergy between Ind and Chm and Egypt, because it will be nigh impossible to get both Oracle for MC and Henge at the same time. I almost lost Oracle in PBEM2 and that was after manipulating every single team apart from Dreylin whom I could beat away from Priesthood. And Obelisks without Phi when you already have a GP point producing wonder have lost their utility, plus rushing is never a viable tactic in an FFA unless the map is horrendously balanced. As LP says, he has options, but he will have to pick one of them early on before he knows the complete picture in which case having multiple options is a waste, should just pick one before the game starts and run with it as far and as fast as you can.
The map I'm working on is a combination of a lakes and highlands mapscript. Kinda like RBPB1 with few patches of flat green land, so perhaps the best example would that it is a cross between RBPB1 and the MTDG map. there will be 5 civs on the top and 5 civs on the bottom, but offset so that each civ has 4 neighbours, not all of them reachable by land.

I ranked Izzy #1 in PBEM 11 even with Huayna and Vicky available, but I ran away scared at the last minute.
I think LP intentionally chose a weird combination just to try to show that it was viable. We will see if he is good enough at Civ to make that work.
And China is overpowered with the paper maker, oh wait, nevermind . . .

I already like Locke. He's blunt and I predict that his diplomacy is gonna blow, but he seems to know the game rather well.
Mack and Nakor's picks are just bizarre. Their leaders are mediocre at best, and their civs gamble far too much on the map having a lot of water, when there was never any indication that it would be islands or small continents. Both of them have shown that they're at least reasonably skilled in their other games, so perhaps I'm missing some hidden strategy?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about Locke. He was a real wild card, but his assessments of the civs/leaders seems dead-on, and I like his picks the best of anyone.

I think they were taking Krill's comment of a fair amount of water on the map to mean islands or continents.
It is a stab in the dark when you don't have map knowledge and for mackoti to take it first up was too much of a waste, but if the map had turned out to be suitable for them they would have been praised for taking a gamble and having it pay off
