Like a hot wind Varn Gosam of the Malakim [SPOILERS]

I'll be closely monitoring his power graph to see if he's up to anything that's for sure, but as it looks now he's too weak to do anything, both economically and militarily. But it will be nice to get that copper hooked up soon! 4th city definitely. I've sent a warrior that way to scout now (the northwest)

Copper for city #4 sounds good.

It would be a good idea to keep that scouting warrior in the area around the copper. Having a barb city full of archers pop up near the copper would be a PITA. wink

BTW: 500+ gold in the kitty at this point in the game is SWEET. That's a whole pile of unit upgrades or deficit research. Getting the "buy a settler for 100g" event in the next 5-10 turns would be very nice.

Yeah gotta love that great merchant thumbsup

We've gotten some great milage out of him. A great Scientist might have been slightly better (maybe), but having a pile of banked hammers/beakers on hand. Booyah.

It's a shame the micro got a little mixed up with the player changes, having the RoK holy city + the merchant in GLT would let us set up a truely awesome gold making city.

Still, can't complain too much. wink

Peering at some of the previous screenshots, I only see one mana node. Am I missing some, or is that all we've found so far? Only one mana node is going to seriously nerf the Lightbringer->Mage upgrade trick.

Yeah that's the only one around, sadly. There's also the pyre of course if we can get it. Hopefully we'll find some more to the west, that would be great. There's also land to the south to explore

The lack of mana really sucks. LB-Mages are a lot more effective if we don't have to spend promotions to gain spell access.

We should be able to grab the Pyre with either city 6 or 7 (city 4 grabs copper, 5 grabs the marble/sheep/floodplains site, 6 either grabs the Pyre/floodplains/oasis or the southern floodplains/incence site). Given that the Spectre/Mistform headed for our borders, we can safely assume that there wasn't anyone else closer (spawned barbs will head to the closest borders (city?)) so we should have the inside track. If someone does beat us to the site, it's on desert and we're Nomads. wink

The land around the Pyre is crap, but the flood plains/oasis + Nomad would allow the city to show a profit even before Spring.

The more I look at this map, the more valuable a source of Water mana and adepts is looking.

The single easiest source is from the palace of Mr Yellow. I'm sure as soon as we get KotE we could ask nicely for a 10t loan in exchange for one of our palace mana's later on. It would be a waste to convert our only node to water for sure.

I completely agree

Another normal, eventless day in the Malakim, and... what? What's this? huh

Taken! The other options were either nothing to get a supplies.

The Great Engineer can bulb bronze working, settle for 3 beakers and 3 hammers, or start a golden age. I want to discuss this first so I skip his turn for now. I then promote our warriors to combat 5, which together with orthus axe gives him 97% against the fortified skeleton on a hill. The warrior will attack in two turns. I start on another worker in GLT, and the one just completed finishes a farm that was one turn away from completion south of GLT.

All hail the mighty RNG God!

Bulbing Bronze seems like a bit of a waste, it's a pretty cheap tech. We could save the GE for a wonder, but we're a long way away from anything worth rushing.
GA with only 10 pop points is weak (we're Spiritual so we don't need the anarchy free civic swap).
An extra 3 base hammers and 3 beakers in GLT would be very handy.

I vote settle.

Mana stuff:

If we can trade for water manna once we have KOTE plus a few adepts, that would be awesome. With only one manna source, I would leave it undeveloped until Sorcery and then make it a Metamagic node. A meta II mage will let us swap it around at will.

Worker stuff: Once the one turn farm is done, I would start the worker roading to the Wheat (+1 health = +1 food in GLT) and then continue roading towards the Gold/cow site. I would use Jerusalem's worker to road the forest NE-NE of GLT, then farm up the last bare grass and then start mining. (if we don't have any pressing military needs, it would probably be good to have Jerusalem spit out a worker at size 4 to start roading towards the copper site.). Worker 3 should road the plains tile 1 NE of GLT to complete the trade route, then hang about GLT farming floodplains and pasturing/roading the sheep.

Naming conventions:

I hadn't really given this much thought, but we should come up with something for our workers and promoted warriors. Mr. I-have-31xp-and-a-big-axe isn't really a Redshirt anymore. smile

I'm thinking we keep naming new warriors as "Redshirt n" and giving names to those who actually survive long enough to gain 10 xp. Famous Klingons perhaps?

Off the top of my head):
General Martock
Kor
Kang
Koloth
Warf
Kurn
Gowron

No real inspiration as far as workers go, famous Union leaders perhaps?

Magic Type units:

We could name our Mages after Major Arcana cards from the Tarot (that would give us 22 names, 21 if we don't re-use The Fool). Adepts could be named after the court cards (16 names).

Priests: Famous porn stars?

And since it worked last time....
