A redshirt is still a redshirt even if he is in a gold uniform.

It really seems like there is no one to the west of us. Here's a new picture:
All but certain that it's just ocean to the west. Which is great, because now we can concentrate on the east. We need to scout south a bit too though. I want a lightbringer for that, since it has 2 moves and sentry.

I was never much of a trekker either so I with you Sciz!!
If that is a peninsula to our west then we should be settling the C in the screen shot above to secure it all to ourselves. It is also about the time we should be thinking about getting some fogbusting warriors out to stop barb city spawns in areas we want to settle. They can be really hard to dislodge especially if founded on a Hill. Obviously our warriors are vulnerable in the open though.

B5 was a better show, but ST was still enjoyable.

Definitely agree on the fogbusters. Barb cities are a PITA to take until we get bronze axes or horsemen online. Bronze warriors can do it, but our attrition levels would be quite high (3-5 casualties/city).
I'd rather settle on the riverside plains hill 2 W-1s of the marked C. It's a much stronger city site (both food tiles are in the first ring, +2 grass hills, a plains hill and two riverside grass tiles vs desert incense and a bunch of desert).
It's looking like our empire is going to be quite spread out. Fast movers and a decent road net are going to be key for effective defense.
Sciz: Could you post up some screenshots of the land we have explored with resource bubbles on. (zipped up to save lurker bandwidth is fine). I've slapped a new power supply in the computer and have it mostly running.....except for my video card which doesn't seem to want to work anymore. I can't run civ on my onboard graphics, but I can mark up some screenies with Paint.

The problem with settling west of the C marker is that we could fit in two cities there otherwise. We'll have a big gap in between that city and GLT if we put it there, which we could put to better use if we settle on the C, and then another city further west. Especially since we have no competition for the western land, since it is only ocean there.

We could plunk down a later fill-in city in the desert region once we have access to Spring + construction. That land will never be great but we will eventually be able to get some use out of it.
I've managed to get my video card working (at least for the moment). Could you send me a copy of the save to have a poke around in?

by the way, if you fix your computer problems and want to play again, you're more than welcome to. I'm feeling kinda burned out on Civ right now to be honest, it's becoming a chore to play. I'll still play if you can't of course, but if you're able to again, feel free to take over again

I'd love to take over again. I didn't want to suggest it as I figured that since you had already put in a lot of work it would be a bit poor to try and grab the game back from you.
I've downloaded the save (turn 59) from the tracker. Have you played? or should I go ahead and play?

oh and before I leave I should probably post some mails I had with Sir Yellow.
He sent me last turn:
Sir Yellow Wrote:Hey Sciz, recently discovered what i believe is the location of your 2nd city. Even the slayer of Orthus stood there proudly, watching over the valley.
But anyway, i'm having slight concerns regarding land here.
As mentioned before, i have it a little rough currently and availible land is one of the issues.
Right now the entire south is barren, north is coastal and i am restricted to west and east.
So when i scout west and see a gold + flood plain combo next to your border (and quite close to me), i can't say i was pleased.
So really, i'd like to talk about this.
Now i'm not saying you are forbidden to grab it, but take note that it will annoy me to great lengths if this area turns yellow (especially considering the current GNP situation).
Also, curious how you got a GP so early in the game.
Sir Yellow, wishing for little rain

I responded with:
Quote:I'm aware of your concern, but that area is just around my doorstep, and to be frank I'm not giving it up. I need at least one buffer city to my capital, and from what I see you are much further away from that area than what I am.
I don't want any hostilities between us, but I believe I am justified to take that spot. You can still expand east of that though, there are flood plains to your direct south.
My GP generating was how you normally get GPs, a priest specialist from our desert shrine
Wishing you well,
Sciz
Our settler is done in 3 turns (or maybe 2, i forgot) and we only need our really strong warrior to accompany it, so there's like no way he's gonna take that spot before us.
Just a heads up though.
