MoM bugs reports (to do list)

trabmorj Wrote:Indeed, the calculations seem to be there. Now if I could only figure them out, lol. huh

Basically the verbose output shows each possible combination of hits versus blocked damage combined with the chance on that particular combination. The expected amount of damage is the sum of the products of each chance with the effective outcome.

Although now it seems like this discussion should be on the DOSbox forums rather than here, and might very well be resolved by scouring the documentation. Another thing that I should do at some point.

I changed several of the settings to match the other values - but the game still crashes whenever it´s about items. In my current new game I conquered a nature node with only 1 gorgon defending - won. Crash.

However before I had disabled DOXBOX closing when the program closes and so this time I saw this error given by Master of Magic:
ITEMPOW.LBX [entry0] has an incorrect record size

Any idea what that could mean?

It means that your version of WIZARDS.EXE does not match your version of ITEMPOW.LBX.
FYI, the current Insecticide 1.40j patch must be installed over the original english version of MoM, which has been patched by patch 1.31.
There are other versions around, notably a CD-version of MoM and other-language versions, but I believe they will not combine.

I had installed the 1.40j patch to the CD-ROM 1.31 german version of MoM. That´s perhaps the reason too that I had a Magics.com which the other poster who used Dfend Reloaded, too did not have.

Just to confirm this:

Indeed, I use the english version of MoM.

I deleted the entire magic folder on my hard disk, reinstalled my german 1.31 version of Mom - and starting a game with Kali I can immediately successfully cast the two item creation spells.

So the problem is not one of Dfend Reloaded or DOSBOX, but a compatibility issue of patch 1.40j and the german CD-ROM version of Mom banghead

Is there a way around that problem?

Edit: I don´t remember seeing that mentioned on the download page for the 1.40j patch that it should only be used with the english version of Mom. Perhaps a warning would be needed there?

Another edit:
I just obtained a used english CD-ROM version of MoM - and after installing that and patching to 1.40j the problem is gone. So it´s just the german CD-ROM version the 1.40j patch has problems with, not the CD-ROM version.

Attached is a 1.40j save-game. Open it, click on the cities screen, and you might enjoy a crash. If this not enough for you, move the active Guardian Spirit to the nearby Chaos node and watch as the 0.5 movement point it could have used to take the node magically vanishes!

Welcome?

I zipped up a save demonstrating perma-spell earlier today, but a quick search:
momfan Wrote:I have the same issue too. Warrax got a staff that gave him Magic Immunity and Planar Travel, then the computer kept trying to dispel them via Disenchant, Dispel etc. When it succeeded, the next turn Warrax got back his Magic Immunity PLUS he also got an enchantment of Magic Immunity. After the battle Warrax was carrying the enchantment of Magic Immunity and its mana upkeep costs. Ditto with Planar Travel.

In this game I do not have either spell (Magic Immunity / Planar Travel) so neither I nor Warrax could have cast them by mistake.

I don't have attachment posting privileges but can send a savegame by email if needed. This problem has happened many times in 1.40i and now 1.40j. Not just that staff either, also happens with Shuri carrying a bow with Resist Magic on it.

I suspect the problem is in the code that resolves the dispelling of item effects. Item effects should be dispel-proof, but apparently the code allows dispelling. I think that at the start of each combat round the code checks for item effects, and if absent it adds the effect back, but it ends up as an enchantment (which can be dispelled and costs mana). The fix should of course be that item effects cannot be dispelled in the first place. 1.31 didn't have this problem, so I guess there was new code in 1.40 that introduced this bug.
kyrub Wrote:Yes, that seems to be the dispel issue, I had some info from DakaSha. Thanks for reports, momfan and Zytac. While trying to correct the non-existent part of dispel, I ran into several bugs. Should be fixed in 1.40k.
: implies that it is no longer useful; is this the case, or will Horus and Jafar continue to graciously save me mana on enchantments?

Running 1.4j and Plight 0.7, I've noticed rather strange occurrences. Cracks Call doesn't seem to have any change of destroying units now. Is that intentional? I've also encountered a weird bug with magic item effects where an any wizard would try to dispel them and the game would claim they had been dispelled but nothing actually changed.

EDIT: Nevermind! I'd cast Cracks Call probably a dozen times and seen it cast me easily half that to no effect, but the spell finally killed one of my heroes. I've been playing since the game came out but never seen a run like that. What luck!
