Wouldn't it be better to just build Great Library somewhere soon? It seems you could you those beakers....

If I can't take Lupu back soon, then putting it in peacemonger would help me control the culture next to Lupu (and give me beakers of course). Or I could just put it in Beamish, and combine scientists with merchants. But you're right, I need to make a move on it soon before someone steals it.
Why are you so interested in putting it in Lupu, exactly?

Partly because it has lots of food so it'll be a good scientist farm. Mostly because I wanted to use the culture to dominate the land, for defensive purposes (sort of like a great artist). My orignal plan was to put the great library there, fill up the land with my culture, and make peace with him because he wouldn't be able to invade at all. I'm reconsidering, because right now I think I have no choice but to go on the offensive and take Hagi as soon as possible. This war isn't going to end until Mackoti is dead.
The troops assemble for battle. Look at all those Dutch axemen, and only a single spearman to protect them...
My healthy, unpromoted vulture goes first, with 10% odds against he horse archer. He doesn't do much damage, but it's enough. Next comes the healthiest shock vultures. They both die, but they do great damage to the catapults. Now for the crucial step. I send my best chariot against the spear, at 0.8% odds. He scores a great victory, and takes the spear down to just 1.8 strength! after an unlucky roll against the horse archer, the spear goes down, leaving the axes unprotected. The slaughter begins... And ends. Complete victory Meanwhile my northern units are approaching Lupu- I should be able to retake it next turn. The GG from this battle will become a supermedic, and lead us to the final victory in Hagi.
By the way, here's the "score" from this bloodbath. Since he sent that army against me, I've lost 10 vultures and 3 chariots, which cost 440 hammers. He lost 13 axes, 6 catapults, 1 spear, 1 chariot, 1 horse archer, for a whopping 870 hammers! And it all happened in my territory, so the war weariness is going to hit him hard.

I don't think you can call losing a unit a victory even if you did a lot more damage than expected. Anyway, have you gotten a unit to qualify you for the HE? I guess it doesn't matter if you'll get enough for another GG anyway.

Hey, in my sims it became clear that taking out the spear was really the crucial step. There was a huge variance in that battle- sometimes the spear could take down 3 or 4 chariots by himself, and ruin everything. Getting the spear down to 1.8 strength with just 1 chariot really did win this battle for me. Not yet- debaser is still at 9XP, and the highest in my big stack is at 8. But yeah, the GG supermedic will unlock it. I don't think it's worth building it now though- I don't have marble, so I'd rather just keep pumping units out of Murphy's. NobleHelium Wrote:I don't think you can call losing a unit a victory even if you did a lot more damage than expected. I strongly disagree. That result was far more valuable than most dead-enemy-unit battles; Luddite had ~10% odds to do that much damage or more on that attack, and it meant that he didn't lose another chariot while knocking out the rest of the stack, which is the real victory. |
