I get the thankless game admin job, and I think sereln has done an amazing job organizing and updating the game, but I don't see why the orders have to be processed by hands, especially if there are three corrections in a single turn.
Yeah. This is pretty much why I was pushing for an automated type system (whether it's an email judge or a web interface). I like the idea of a GM being someone that organizes the game, finds replacements, makes sure things are going smoothly, etc., but let a computer do the adjudication. I mean that's all Sareln is doing - he's putting the orders into a computer (JDip I think) anyways.
I don't want to complain about Sareln because like sunrise I agree that he's done a good job with the organizing and also that game adminship is thankless, but I do want to point out that it can put players in an awkward situation. For me this turn, he had me convoying to Ankara which would put me a much better position. So do I point out the mistake and put myself in a worse position? I chose to do that but will other players do the same in a similar situation?

For the record, this was the email I sent with my orders
Quote:a rum-bla-arm
f bla c a rum-arm
a ukr-rum
a war-sil
f bot-stp(sc)
1) do i have to specify convoy path (arm-bla-rum vs. just arm-rum)
2) do i have to specify a coast for bot-stp, or only if it might be ambiguous (e.g. mao-spa could be either coast)

Yeah, I got flustered after the first mistake, and trying to do corrections quickly, didn't notice the other mistakes in the order-input. Typically I check the orders into the adjudicator as they come in, but I think from now on I'll be doing a double-check before I hit resolve. Hopefully I've gotten all my diplo-brain-farts out of the way for this game.

So I guess if E supports G to Bot our builds this turn will have to be up north somewhere, like Mos if nowhere else is available, so our fleet can have some support? If they both come after us how much can we reasonably do about it?

Yeah we'd have to build A Mos probably.
If E/G comes after us, as long as we can keep Austria onboard, we're likely to lose Stp at the most. Keep in mind we should get 2-3 builds over the next 2 years.

Any new emails in the last couple days? Trying to earn my status as "teammate" (more like a dedlurker really at this point) by asking hopefully helpful questions but not much new info recently.

Yeah sorry about that - I have been lax in reporting in all my endeavors.
I sent this to Germany
Quote:Just checking in. I will be moving my fleet to Bothnia as we talked about earlier. That gives us some options to move on England in 1903 if we feel like that's the right move. I've heard rumors of England supporting you to the Gulf of Bothnia, and while not expected, it certainly is not impossible nor would it be appreciated, as I'm sure you know ;-). Similarly I would not appreciate a move by you to Silesia and/or Prussia (I will not be moving Army Warsaw to either of those places). And I haven't even asked Austria to move to Bohemia!!!! :-D
Good luck against France!
They replied with
Quote:Did you still want to bounce in Livonia then? Not sure where you got rumours about us moving to GoB from as we weren't plannign to move there...
I replied this morning
Quote:Who knows how rumors start.... In any case no, I would not like to bounce in Livonia. I would like you to not move east at all, and I won't move west.

Had an email from Austria in the inbox
Quote:Yo everybody be trippin ova themselves tryin' ta talk ta me! SO yesterday I just took a break. This thing stresses me out. Easiest just to go with whatever you say this time...
Yeah so, I see the aggression. I'm willing to move toward Germany I think. Gal to boh or do you want me to support you to sil this time?
Italy thinks you and Turkey are still working together so he said he'll support me in Greece. I'm thinking you take ank and maybe support Ser into Bul? If I can get that I'll get 2 builds.
I'm going out for dinner hopefully I'll be back later to finish hashing it out.
If we don't get a chance to chat, just send me what moves you think I should make and I'll let you know what I think.
Lewwyn
He also had a chat that he sent while I was out
Quote:Lewwyn: so uh
when you get on lemme know
Everyone wants me to kill you
I've gotten messages from Germany, England, Italy(though Itally seems sorta on the fence) oh and even Turkey is coming round to me asking to help me attack you

Responded to Austria
Quote:Dip can be a crazy game - when it heats up, it tends to REALLY heat up. The good news is that 1902 is probably the craziest time. In 1901, everyone is kind of doing everything and it's hard to tell what people's REAL motives are (if they even know themselves). In 1902 it starts to all get sorted out and then for the next few years, the alliances are less fluid. At least that's how I remember it...
In any case, I think Gal-Boh is best and I will support Ser-Bul. Hopefully I/T don't work together to take out Greece - that would surprise me. I'm not sure why Italy thinks that Turkey and I are still working together. I don't know what else I'd have to do? :-)
I also don't know why I've all of a sudden become the world's whipping boy and why everyone seems to want to take a piece of me? I think E/G seem in a stronger position. It just goes to show you the power of a strong alliance. I mean everyone thinks that Diplomacy is all about stabbing everyone, but the reality is if you go around stabbing people all the time you're not going to get anywhere. The key is an early, strong alliance, which I think E/G has and I hope that you and I are on the way to having.
In any case, I shoudl be around most of the day if you're back, but summarizing - Gal-Boh (or even Sil if you want), and I will support Ser-Bul from Rum
Also emailed sareln to change my order for A Rum

It makes no sense to me for Austria to attack us. Who would he think would be next?
I don't really think we can trust G farther than we can throw them. Especially not if we can keep A on board and our alliance starts trading blows with theirs. E and G pretty much have to come after one or both of us.
