[SPOILERS] MNG as Hattie of France

Big news this turn:

Commodore settled his 4th city, bringing the city count to:

Us/RL7/GES: 6
Yuri: 5
Commodore: 4

Other news from this turn, is that Commodore responded about the stone-for-missionary trade:

Quote:Hey MNG,

Sorry for the tardy reply here, despite being able to play several turns yesterday it was always just pop on computer, play, hop off. Have a bit more time here now, I'll address the proposal:

*Unfortunately, the barb city messing up my dotmap pushed my settling into a slightly different order than expected, it might be a bit longer than that before I have the Moai site up and running.
*My ideal missionary-to-France city, Nemedia, has yet to see Hinduism spread and the other Hindu cities are pumping workers/settlers at the moment.
*The shrine GP will actually be second after the Academy GS, baring odd RNG results, so spreading has very little near-term benefit right now.

I still would love to work with you here though. How about this counter proposal:
-10T of Stone once the Moai starts, with at least five turns warning to you and you reserving the right to delay a reasonable (say, 15 turns) amount of time if you're currently using it.

In return, Hyboria provides you with either,
-One missionary immediately, started within 2 turns and immediately run up to you to gift as soon as he's within your borders.
Or,
-Two missionaries before the stone is actually sent, with again some reasonable (first delivered by T70) anti-tardiness provision.

How does this seem?

Regards,
-Commodore

Is it just me, or is that a really good trade in our favor --- especially considering that once HG completes in a few turns, we won't need stone until around T90? So I'm thinking an unequivocal YES to the second option of 2 missionaries around T70.

I'd love advice on this, though, to make sure I'm not missing some glaring hole here.

Also news from today's turn: stone came online, and reduced HG time DRASTICALLY. We're talking like 7 turns to completion. I can probably get 1, maybe 2 cities completed in that timeframe. Should I stall to get to 9 cities and risk losing the wonder? It's not of huge importance, but I'd like to land it if I can. What say you, peanut gallery?

Always nice when a plan comes together. thumbsup
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Sure is. My question, that I'll have to wait for answers from the other players, is whether I was in a race for it, or if other teams were ignoring it. On this map though, you're looking at 1, 2, maybe 3 cities not on the coast, so really? That's got to be the biggest wonder in the game, I can't imagine that other teams would be completely ignoring it.

The other question, or fear that I have is if I'll face similar diplomatic fallout as other teams that have gotten TGL in previous games. I guess I'll point out that I'm only getting international TRs, and not overseas TRs - maybe that'll help smooth over some of the fallout? I don't really want to have to pay for OBs.

I hope to keep playing this from the perspective of a weak player. My chat with Commodore. He wasn't after GLH, but Yuri/Maestro was. They weren't terribly invested in it, though, so it's all good. The line that worries me most is "Man, nicely done. Hatty vs. Fin needs to play her A game, and you've been doing so." After I told him that I was getting a GS on the same turn that I got the GLH. I'd rather be perceived as playing a B or B+ game. Good performance but not terribly threatening, right? So here's the whole chat:

Quote:10:32 PM me: Thanks for the save, nice to get in 2 turns tonight smile
Darius: Yep, np
Grats on the GLH
10:33 PM me: thank you
hope you were really not after it
Darius: Nope, not at all.
I'm Captain Woefully underexpanded here.
10:34 PM me: well you got your 4th city just now - and with 2 holy cities, you'll be doing just fine in no time
but i tell you, i was sweating bullets as the saves were going around over the weekend
and trying my hardest to stay out of wonder conversations
10:35 PM Darius: Yeah, Maestro seemed a little rueful, but not really upset.
Apparently, they hadn't been dropping chops into it yet.
me: okay good. i've kept quiet about it but have hoped i didn't "steal" it from anyone
10:36 PM Darius: I'm shocked RL7 didn't pick it up.
me: Me too - strong expansion plus industrious
10:37 PM Darius: So, going to be trying for that Great Merchant soon?
10:38 PM me: maybe, but just got a GS this turn, so it's unlikely you'll see a GM from me soon
Darius: Man, nicely done.
Hatty vs. Fin needs to play her A game, and you've been doing so.
10:39 PM me: well thank you. i hope i don't regret skipping financial. but i need cre and spi as crutches too much to skip them both
10:41 PM Darius: Know the feeling.
I have anarchy.
10:43 PM *hate anarchy, that is.
10:44 PM me: i don't miss it, that's for sure. just wish I had some super powerful cottages up already.
10:45 PM Darius: Eh, I've cripple my production to get my villages.

Complimenting his progress (2 holy cities). Downplaying my game - relying on spi and cre as crutches, setting myself up to claim 100% of my GNP is from the GLH.

Well if I was playing for sure wait for 8 or 9 cities in my opinoin not worth the wonder with 7 cities.

Well, today's turns were far less dramatic than previous turns. A few highlights:

*Finished monarchy, took the obvious switch to HR. Should alleviate any anger issues for the immediate future.
*GES settled city #7 this turn. I'd be worried that he's chasing me to Hanging Gardens, but our recent conversations make me think he is choosing COL over Maths. Therefore, I'm intentionally delaying HG until I have settled cities # 7, 8, and 9. In the interim, I figured I'd put out a quick barracks/axe combo in Paris. Not really anything better to build there. Should take me 7 turns or so to get to 9 cities. If I miss the HG, not a big deal - I'll take the gold. But if I get it, it'll be nice... I'm thinking free library in my pink dot city to give it a secure border, and working toward forges elsewhere.
*Forges? Yeah, I chose MC for next research. Likely tech path from here is MC-Currency-COL-Civil Service. From there? We'll see.
*Our workforce has grown considerably - now at 7 workers, in two turns time we'll be up to 9 workers.
*After another round of whipping, I find myself on the bottom of the scoreboard - right where I want to be smile With any luck, by the time that I start vertical growth, I'll have enough production and power that any team trying to get smart against me will have to think twice.

That's it, I think smile
