Given results like that, I really regret not splitting this fleet! thumbsup We could have finished the Liir this turnset instead of needing to wait for another slow drift across space.

Excellent work, Zed-F! bow

I guess that being Hivers we need to be thinking further ahead on invasions, because it takes so long to move fleets to systems where we do not already have gates.

The Liir should soon be gone, then I guess we start hitting the Morrigi? Or do we want to crush the local Tarka before they can form an alliance with the distant Tarka?

The Morrigi worlds are closer to the distant Tarka and will be grabbed by them sooner, plus the Morrigi are less advanced than the local Tarka. So I rather favor going for them first, and then cleaning up the local Tarka. But I am not sure if this is really the best approach.

Turn 207: More freighters.

Interturn 207: Finish the combat at Liiruma. Realize I forgot to build biomes.

Turn 208: Build biomes for Liiruma. Spot an incoming near Tarka fleet attacking Shononu, due in 2 turns; move the Liiruma fleet to cover it now that they are done at Liiruma. This will delay additional attacks by a few turns but oh well; it should at least leave the near Tarka homeworld uncovered and relatively vulnerable to a counter-attack.

Far Tarka settle Lefkandi, which we managed to mine down to 2500 resources before they arrived. It will take them a while to terraform that puppy. wink Next up is Kua'Gra, which has a Tarka colony fleet due in 4 turns. I doubt I can get it down quite that far before they settle it but we will see.

Amazingly, I don't build any freighters this turn. I am busy building extra warships and satellite defenses for Shononu, which can now have med sats thanks to Arcologies. I'll probably be back to freighters next turn though.

Interturn 208: Nothing.

Turn 209: Magnetoceramics is overbudget. Reinforce Shononu.

Interturn: Tarka fleet arrives at Shononu. We lose 1 gate and 1 DD sat. They lose 12 cruisers including 2 command cruisers, or about half their force.

Turn 210: Magnetoceramic lattices complete; redesign ships that need it to incorporate it. Give orders to settle Liiruma and queue up a bunch more freighters. Otherwise we're mainly waiting for combat at Shononu to end so we can use those ships to attack.

I have not chosen a next tech to pursue yet. Suggestions:

- Quick & easy, somewhat useful: Fusion warheads, Data correlation
- Economy: we could go toward stations for trade stations... it is a while yet but we will eventually mostly fill our trade network with CA freighters, at which point trade and research stations will be useful.
- Military: Incorporate Tarka so we can capture their civilians would be useful, and more chance of capturing anything they might have. Heavy drivers would be a useful offensive upgrade.

Suggestions for the Shononu fleet after it is done defending Shononu would be to split up into 2-3 fleets and attack a few useful places in our end of the barbell. The fleets attacking Ke'Lolum and Ke'Thalt should be arriving soon. Set formations how you like for these; make sure in the case of the Ke'Thalt fleet you use asteroid cover if it's available and PD ships if it's not. After the Ke'Lolum fleet takes out the Tarka pickets there and explores the world, it will need to be built up into a proper fleet with more support ships and probably a few extra combat cruisers as well in order for it to be sent against harder targets. The Ke'Thalt fleet should be amply big enough already for most things, depending on how stiff the defense at Ke'Thalt is.

I prefer going after the local Tarka before the Morrigi mainly because we will probably make the far Tarka angry by beating up the near Tarka, and I want the Far Tarka to have enemies closer to hand (Morrigi) so that they don't decide to pester us. Even though we can defend just about anywhere, I would prefer to avoid multi-front wars where possible.

More good turns, Zed-F! smile

I like the idea of Heavy Drivers for a bit more offensive punch, and it should be only a few turns of research. It also opens up a chance for Neutronium Rounds, which while expensive would increase the damage done by all of our driver weapons.

We could also head for Orbital Drydocks (5% savings on CR and DN costs) as a path to Heavy Platforms (10% IO boost to all planets) and eventually DN construction. This would give us some ship-building and economy boosts and get us closer to eventual DN building. This might be better a bit later if we feel we need more combat power sooner, but more economy is always nice.

If we are going to go for heavy drivers I think now is the time to do it, we're really starting to build more and more navy, in my opinion it makes sense to research military techs while/before your building, not after. wink

Of course anything that helps I/O is good too, but it is kind of buried...

Well you are up Tyrmith so you get to pick. If you like military techs I will also note we have Quark Resonators in our tree, though again they are a bit on the expensive side while we are still building out our trade networks.

Tyrmith, any updates?

I have company this weekend, so in the event it rolls around to my turn again before Sunday, please swap or skip me.

Tyrmith?

(echoes fade into nothingness)

Well, Zed-F played last and Mardoc is otherwise occupied for the weekend. I played before Zed-F, so I don't really want to grab another set until we can rotate through the rest of the team.

Well with no sign of Tyrmith -- he hasn't posted anywhere to the boards in the last several days -- I guess we will need to skip him. Since the weekend is nearly over, Mardoc, you're up when you get the chance to play.

If anyone is interested in potentially replacing Tyrmith if he does not return, please let me know. It's possible RL has swallowed him up and he may not have any time to play any longer.
