He's a pubstomper, but not viable in 14 or 1500 games. Pretty fun though. I had a 60% win rate with him, which has dropped to 56ish, as I have played him once in a blue moon now.

Speaker,

Since this is a better venue for big-picture thoughts than Teamspeak or chatting in-game, do you want to take the time to list any champs that you think are noticeably better or worse at certain ELOs? Or, do you have thoughts on whether it works to think about the game in terms of ELO tiers at all? Obviously a HotshotGG is vastly different from a new player, but could it be said that pubstomp champs like Twitch or Pantheon are still dominant in very very low elo, giving way to X champs at higher ELOs, giving way to....

I'm pretty interested in the big-picture meta of LoL, even though I think the community both overreacts (by changing behavior) and underreacts (by lagging behind) to changes.

Generally, all or nothing characters like Xin are really strong at lower ELOs, where focus fire isn't nearly as common. Katarina would be another example. Someone like Ezreal would be pretty strong at low ELO because of his high mobility, but he doesn't do enough damage or have any CC, to be useful at higher ELO. You'll probably notice that there are very few characters lacking CC who are viable at any decent ELO. Ashe, for instance, is the best ranged AD for super high ELO because she has decent damage, but really great team utility. At low ELO, you are better off with MF or Vayne because she does so much damage.

Are there any specific characters you had in mind?

So here is my general impression with just a few minutes of reflection. I'm not married to any of this, and I wonder if I'm putting too many bright lines in place vs not enough.

*At very low ELOs or with brand new players, champs that can exploit map awareness might be best of all. Eve, Twitch, Pantheon, TF...champs where against the worst players you can get a kill every time you engage.

*After that the champs you suggested above, like Xin, or maybe Kat, Yi, Akali... might be best. People know enough not to die to Twitch over and over in lane, but not enough to know Kat out of her ult or not feed a hyper-carry.

*Then champs with CC start to matter. In the 5v5 ranked games I play (as opposed to the much lower level solo queue games) where the opponents have between 1300-1500 5v5 ELOs it generally makes sense to have CC on everyone, or at least on everyone that isn't a pure carry.

*Finally at top ELOs, from what I've seen via video, champ selection may not change much (or does it?) but the game becomes much more fluid, mobile, yet also less bloody. For a while it looked like ranged AD bot was a top-elo only thing, and wouldn't work in mid-elo since the support bot would steal farm, but that's trickled down, and I don't know if anything has similarly replaced it for the best players.

I think that's a really good characterization.

Or people being silly. Like I once had to fight a AS Cho. I have no idea why my 2 AD carries didn't pick up Razor, 'cause he got so fed and would just push and he had so much HP we couldn't kill him without like 3 heroes.

But yeah, at low ELO super scaling heroes, invis heroes, and all-or-nothing combo heroes seem to be the biggest stompers. Either that or someone randomly gets fed and the other team doesn't know how to handle that.
