Krill Wrote:EDIT: looking back through the haze (damn I hate 75 hour work weeks) I've seen 1 person say large (me), one person say normal map size (Serdoa) and one person saying either works (SL). Meh, do whatever works the best, but I wouldn't take that to mean you have to use a standard size map, if you think that's going to be too cramped.

I see your point about the consensus not being that clear at the time.

Ultimately it's your game, I'm just helping get it started. I would like more sea than normal/low is giving me. I think it would make a better map.

But, I also have had enough criticism for surprising people that I don't want to repeat that. So what I really want is the 6 of you to come to something resembling consensus, and then I'll try to implement it. That way if Sareln's really upset about Large, at least he's not blaming *me* for it. lol

I guess the general approach is up to the 6 of you, if you want to just vote, if you want to repick civs, etc.

I'll start on a Large map in parallel, therefore, and hope it doesn't take too long for you guys to agree on something so I don't throw out too much work on whichever map size is rejected. If you end up deciding to stick with normal/low, then I can do that too.

I'll frame our position up this way.

At no point in this thread did we restrict map to Standard size and trying to push it really hard just because one happened to pick a rusher with units that can't be hasted is not really kosher :neenernee

We made our picks without any assumptions to the map or oppositions lineup. If Mardoc says he needs Large/Medium Level to make a better map, we're fine with giving him that. If people feel they can't live with bigger map, we're fine with that too. We will play the pick regardless of what is it going to end up, even if either is not really up our alley.

We abstain from this vote.

I would prefer a large map.

That said I will play regardless and I'm only choosing that size to fit my civ now that I have the choice. I chose the Hippus based on either large or standard size.

Sorry Sareln! wink

(posting after a 12 hour nightshift). Thank you for being understanding, and I totally agree with your point.

Alright. I wrote out my thoughts in my thread (so you can all see them later if you want). For now, you get the executive, redacted, summary lol
  • Mardoc made the right call punting the decision back to the players
  • Standard benefits directly the rushing civs: Sheaim, Illians, Clan of Embers
  • Large benefits directly the mobility civ: Hippus
  • The other two Civs (Sidar & Grigori) don't see direct benefit from Large, but still see some benefit by weakening the rushing Civs.
  • That's a 3/3 impasse if we all just vote our (in)direct interests.

My priority is to have a game where people all have an opportunity to show their stuff if they play well. If we stick with a standard size map, it is my opinion that the game will be anyone's to play for. If we go for large, I expect the Hippus to be the commanding favorite in my books before the game even starts.

Perhaps I am over-crediting the strength of Hippus on a larger map, but that is my opinion in this case. If you disagree, you're welcome to override my vote, and I will happily play with you anyways alright but best to get this out now, so that it is resolved and we can all play our best in the actual game lol rather than this pre-game which seems to have sprung up (perhaps only in my mind).

I don't know that the Hippus will become overall favorites from the start just because the map is big, it will help though. Remember - I don't have an economic trait!

I just want to play a game with the set up I have chosen.

Mardoc - please just toss a coin or something if it really is 3-3... lol

Erm... I don't even...

However, speaking from experience, in the Dregs game it was a medium size map? And it ended with heck a lot of rushes. Frankly, do we want this game to end this way as well?

Scrap that. As one of the civs who doesn't gain from large or medium, i'm just going to say abstain.

So - I count 1 vote for Large, 1 for Normal, and 3 abstentions.

Guys, this isn't making it any clearer for me lol If I don't see a clear consensus either way, default will be to continue with the Normal/low sea map I started first, assuming I figure out how to swap Amelia's civ/leader without starting from scratch.

Amelia Wrote:Dregs game it was a medium size map?
Dregs was Small, although only 5 players. Normal with 7 would be about the same ratio of Land/people.
