Nobody expects the Chinese Inquisition: Isabella of China

By the by, as I haven't seen the save yet... if he doesn't have a chariot threatening my workers, is that grounds for voiding the NAP? It occurred to me I could have been completely played here as I never actually SAW the threat. I doubt that's the case but somethings really nagging at me here - why give me a NAP if he has the opportunity to cripple me? What don't I know?
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Sure, I would think that it's implied that the NAP only holds if he was truthful about what he said. Of course SevenSpirits would tell you that you should have specified that when accepting the NAP. wink (Not to mock you or anything, Seven.)

Surely all he knows for sure is that he can snipe a couple of workers? Which would piss you off but not cripple you or outright kill you - and isn't the truism that early war can hurt everyone, not just the victim? So a bit of a bluff (war might not be good for him after all), but with enough truth & teeth behind it to not've made it worth your while calling him on it.

The thing that's tickling the back of my mind about the deal is that he's tacitly encouraging you to go off on the rampage on the other side of the world. The way it's set up, he's encouraging you to think of the advantage you get if you beat one other rival first, then can pick on him when he's busy. So isn't he hoping you do what Lewwyn's suggesting? That you stop REXing, and rush off with some chariots to go conquer someone ... and then he can sit back knowing he's got a while before you turn your military on him & he can grow in peace? And if you dodge that carrot, you still have the implied stick of "when's mackoti coming for me?" coz it's not got a solid endpoint. (Although it's not that bad, providing you get contact with his other neighbour you'll see the end of that war coming so have prep-time then). I can't remember from the start up thread if he knows Lewwyn is ded-lurking you, and Lewwyn does have a bit of a rep for wanting early rushes so it might be a great way to wind up Lewwyn & get him to point you in the "right" direction lol

Speaking of reps ... I think every game thread I've ever seen Mackoti post in he's either been congratulating someone for building the Mids, saying they should build the Mids, or commiserating coz someone else built the Mids... I'm sure you know already, but I'll bet he already has his game plan sorted out for how quickly he's building them, just is worried you can do it too smile

Building the pyramids would be like stomping all over his sand castle. smile

Love the sandcastle discussion. I think we have to try for mids now - hope someone has their micro hats on.

I open the save to this message:

mackoti is one strange cat.

Hinduism founded in a distant land. I whipped the worker in the capital, overflow to a Settler. Not much else going on - mackoti did in fact have a Chariot on our borders.

Will whip the Granary in Carne Ahumada next turn then start on a Monument.

Need to figure out a good Mids city fast. Croqueta China will have 3 forests - we'd need 335/(13*2)= 13 forests to chop it out pre-math. CC does have pretty decent native production though - Horses, Furs and Cows at size 3 would be 10H*2/turn which isn't bad this early. If I let it grow to 5 with the FP Cottage and a Mine we could get it 13H*2/turn. So with the chops 10T. Could chop the furs forest if need be, which would cut it to 9T. That seems a bit much if we're racing.

Food for though. I do love stomping sandcastles. I like even more the idea of building it in the city he threatened to get the NAP so he can look wistfully at them all game. wink

Just to be clear, I'm not really advocating building the pyramids. Not saying it's a bad play, but I would like to hear the case for it. For example, going for the GLH with a diplomatic guarantee for open borders sounds like a very viable alternative to me.

My comment about stomping on his sand castle was just that; an observation. It seems pretty clear he would be gutted if we build it.

(Edit: and by we, I obviously mean you. smile)
