Any?
A pal of mine has been after me to try the free trial, which I did.
It's not bad.

Hi,
cynyck Wrote:It's not bad. [WoW] It is not bad, it is evil. It sucks in people, never to be seen or heard from again. I lost two friends, one who I have known for over 20 years, to that damn game. It makes people lose their partner and their job.
I hate it, and won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

No monthly fee... ... and no infinite training to max out your character. WoW is beautiful, but it's one of those games that reward you for playing more rather than playing well. If you play for fun or friends it's ok, but when you play to "achieve success" in game it becomes a huge time drain.
I've never played WoW, but I've tried out other games like that. It's amazing how fast they can become drugs... watch out for that!

O.K., interesting responses. I'll have to try Guild Wars and see what it's like. Is there a large learning curve?
To Kylearan: please, don't hold back, tell me what you really think!

Just a bit more than 100 hours played, and I'm still a complete noob longest learning curve I've ever experienced. It's a very complex game IMO, and that's what makes it fun to play.

Despite mucco's response, I feel that if you've ever played first person shooters enough to know what W, A, S, D, do and can hit the SPACE bar and have any experience with the point and click interface of something like Diablo II, then many of the basics are down already. The 'long' side of the curve is simply in gaining an understanding of what the various skills do and how to turn them most to your advantage.

Do we have a trial key for cynyk (assuming you need one?) I might have one for factions, but an NF trial is probably a better bet at this point. Or even prophecies.
I sortof ragequit the WoW closed beta because of travel issues. Fast travel in the game consists of sitting on a griffon for 4-5 minutes with absolutely no interaction. Slow travel is running through empty roads for hours. The death penalty in most areas is being forced to walk 5-10 minutes back to your corpse while invincible. Give me GW's click-and-zap map travel any day.
A site we have Diablo roots with, the Lurker Lounge, has a fairly large WoW following.

I ordered the original Guild Wars and will see how it goes. I am a Diablo player also, but have never really gone beyond soloing online with that. I do have a couple of questions about getting started with GW, but will carry those over to the GW forum.
Thanks to everyone who replied.
