I can't play d1! What am I to do?

Hello everyone!

I'm having some issues with connecting to b.net that don't seem to want to let me play online. So diablo is out for at least a month or two it seems...

I've just reinstalled Guild Wars and can get online but if you guys remember, i only had factions, so starting that up again would involve buying nightfall and or prophecies, which i don't think i'll end up doing.

Is there any other online rpg/mmo's that people are playing at the moment, that fit the RB ideas of challenging and fun, with room for experimentation?

This is *really* late, but, IIRC from reinstalling D1, the base install from the original CD no longer connects to b.net. I had to install from the cd then patch from a web site, which updated the b.net servers to a point I could connect.

I have a horribly abused original cd from 1997, though, so ymmv.

I could also be completely wrong. Wouldn't be the first time...

*ps--Does anyone else have a problem with storm.dll corruption under xp? I get really oddball level loading times that seem to get worse and worse, unless I drop a new storm.dll in. Odd.

It is true. If you try to connect with a fresh install of Diablo, it won't even be able to find b.net. Installing the 1.09 patch manually is a good way to fix that problem.

I haven't had any problems with Diablo under XP.

but my problem is more to do with access to port 6112 through my student dorm server.

You should ask your dorm admins to open up those ports properly.

Other alternative is, in case you have people you wanna play private games with:

everyone install hamachi, have one of your firends (or yourself) run bnetd. if you dont have linux, you can use cygwin and compile bnetd on it.

some friends of mine and me have been using this way to play together for some time.

p.s. you might have trouble compiling bnetd, code has some errors. if it happens, let me know, i can always upload fixed code somewhere.

Can't sort it yet... on account of the fact that I don't matter and could be some rogue hacker or something.

As for the hamachi idea.. i'm not exactly sure what you're saying... but that's not going to matter anyway, as those i could sort private games with are in exam mode until the end of the month... and then it's my turn... and then when we're both free, I'll be able to direct them to hear and have them interpret for me... or better yet, sort it themselves, so i don't have to

Guess I'm still a couple of months away after all though.
