Indeed, we didn't actually even ban talking outside of the thread, we just incentivised turn each other in for doing so or rather Lewwyn incentivised it using his meta gaminging bounty system rather than an outright ban.

So how do you lurkers feel about it?

I'd still say the spirit of the rules is perfect visibility so its not so cloak and dagger and its more fun than work. And negotiating a little treaty that's non binding and going to be broken anyway over the period of several days is by definition not fun but work to catch people at the right time especially when it is a worthless treaty that we both know is just a formality.

Discuss, I command it or I shall bring upon so much drama as to drag this game to a stand still!

You were in the wrong. The rules are straight forward: deal with it.

Nothing more annoying than someone telling you to deal with something that is dealt with. That's fine but I'm more asking what do you think the spirit of the rule is suppose to be or rather what the spirit of this game is suppose to be. But I suppose that philosophy hasn't been invented yet in this game so that's fine too.

We said back in post 48 that you are only supposed to communicate in the public thread, and again you went and chatted with LP in private.

But it is not really private if you both know its going to be made public and it is made public. Just like how every mail, search, and chat you do on Google is not private since Google is a third party that knows what you and other parties do.

Then don't do diplo at all. The intent is quite clearly that public trash talking ("diplo") is fun, highly encouraged and laudable; and that the only way to enforce agreements is to do it yourself with your military.

Not only that ... it says explicitly right there in the very first post plako made about the game what the diplo is to be:

plako Wrote:Diplomacy
Public player thread allowed right from the beginning. No any other format of diplomacy. Everyone can suggest and talk about anything they like in the thread. However no deal made is valid in any court wink. Biggest deal breaker of the game should be prized not condemned.

My bold for emphasis, I've removed the spoiler tags from the original, otherwise that's exactly what you signed up for. How can "No other format of diplomacy" have a spirit of anything other than "No other format of diplomacy"?

When a rule is not made for its own sake, pling. I did a brief skim through of the original game planning thread and it seems to be the whole point was to basically make it CTON but with the possibility of ganging up on each other because the game is inherently unfair and you would need to be able to kill the leader to keep it from being a pure snowball game.

I think that goes without saying but its still nice to make general deals if only for appearance, otherwise if you are only making deals to break them, then it becomes an obvious tell. Or maybe its just force of habit. Or maybe its to get my thread more posts.

Either way, I was disappointed that there wasn't a 'most game breaking diplo award' because I think this counts smile

I wonder what is so hard to understand about

No other means of Diplo

I'm sure with your relativistic view of rules you can find excuses to break any other rules here as well.
