I can honestly say that I think this is the most annoying map I've seen on RB since I joined:
I have two options. Either ignore the copper and try to fight barb axes with warriors, or settle 1N of the cow. That means I need to chop a monument at city 2 because it needs the corn (the capital isn't ever giving that cow up) and generally just waste more worker turns on improving a city that isn't any help with tech and grows really slowly compared to the "TWO" site.

Gotta be honest, I'm getting a bit disheartened that just about everything that can go wrong with this game (well after the leader/civ combos got drawn) is going wrong.

Meh, it does suck but so did PB7's map. I suppose your choice graph looks like this:
Start -> Whine <-> Whine <-> Settle North of Cows
Its not that bad, you can chop the plains tile at 9 from your capitol and mine it or something.

By turn 55 the capital is going to work all of the hills and the cow anyway. I still need a city for the corn and the river grasslands and that city has to have the corn. The copper city has precisely 2 tiles to work early on, the copper and the grass hill, for a useless 9hpt and no growth. It is just an awful city site and I think I'm going to ignore copper.

Basically: what happens to the other cities in the NW? What tiles will they work? They are basically turned into junk cities in an attempt to make the copper city decent, and the copper city is never going to be decent. You're advocating a short term advantage of having copper and a good early city against the long term disadvantage of bunch of junk cities. And I don't think the copper city is even a good short term advantage as it takes so long to get off the ground.
