The reason we didn't post about the mechanic before was that the whole issue was originally raised by a lurker...that didn't have anything to do with the importance of the mechanic itself.

He hasn't been tracking their Great Artists so he doesn't know how far they are. A good point, but like I said, won't he realize immediately that they're close to a CV once Lewwyn abandons the city this turn, assuming he's corrected about the CV mechanics?
I think that if Sullla has now explicitly stated that he thinks the victory is impossible due to the 3 cities thing, then we as lurkers have every right to correct him. This is a mechanics issue and no more. You don't need to give more info than that, simply:
"That's not actually correct from my experience" would suffice. Lurkers are always very eager to correct every mistake Sullla makes normally and I don't view this as spoilery. oledavy Wrote:One of the things I check every time I log in to the game is the top 5 cities screen. Lately, Iâve been watching for a population decrease in Istanbul, and then, it finally happened.Damn, Davy is on the ball. That's another piece of info Sullla could look at (culture is the lion's share of the top 5 cities ranking) but hasn't thought to. And yeah, I didn't mean to blow up this thread, but should have known it would happen. ![]() Quote:Damn, Davy is on the ball. That's another piece of info Sullla could look at (culture is the lion's share of the top 5 cities ranking) but hasn't thought to. He in fact, did. He saw that the top 3 cities in the world were the three cities from Team 2's Culture attempt. He then discarded the information.
Sigh, lost my post...
I think this can be a game deciding situation. Team1's players are smart and given the activity here they'll figure out what's going on. Krill has a very good post here: http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showpost....count=1000 Would we consider saying anything if this post never happened: http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showpost....tcount=338 Kalin Quote:Team 2: This team has baffled me from the very start of the game. Their tech choices have never made any sense. They built all these wonders to very little purpose. What in the world are they doing?! The only thing I can imagine is that they're going for Culture, which is so ridiculous that I've dismissed it out of hand for most of the game. Nevertheless, they did prioritize Liberalism, and several of them are in Free Speech civic, so who knows. They researched one tech in the last 20 turns (Feudalism). Are they really running the culture slider? That feels totally suicidal to me - I see no possible way to reach a victory before someone comes and kills them. Thats what Sullla wrote BEFORE the lurker comment which "raised the issue". Sounds for me that he already at that point misunderstood how it works. After the post he wrote Quote:After Team 2 failed to research yet another tech on their turn, and they built Spiral Minaret, I decided I would look into the whole culture thing. So let's talk about culture under these settings: Not acting like the redacted lurker post alarmed him, he was already alarmed about it before but didn't feel it is feasible (and didn't see anything in the victory screen making him suspect anything). After team 2 still acting weird he looked into it more thoroughly and ran into the game-mechanic issue. The whole "a lurker told him via his redacted post" is just what the lurkers felt, not something that is supported by his posts.
On less polarized topics...

More people have been to Berlin than I have.
Close to 100 posts today.
To me, not telling them is fine. Clearly, Team #2 did the testing and it worked. Clearly, team #3 did the testing and it worked. Team #1 did the testing and got it wrong. Not only that, Team #1 is willing to believe that a team will spend all this effort doing a CV in MP and get the mechanics wrong!! That's a metagame issue. And I don't think team #1 is as out of it as team #2 seems to think - team #1 has destroyers and transports and can, presumably, send an army to milkshake in a couple of turns by water (if they knew where milkshake was and could get to it that fast)

Would they have enough time to mass transports for an invasion even if they were absolutely sure of Milkshake's location? |
