That you get the granary faster and grow faster and will probably get to size 3 faster in the 2nd one?
Maybe the slaved citizen was a stand-up philosopher named Comicus?

That I wrote 2K words about how to pop borders and the next turn I get a random religion spread to the city. That pops the borders.

Straight forward turn:
Move the warrior 4 and promote to C1. That should give good odds on defence.
Some people are growing well...
Units are expensive...I think I set this turn to about 20% slider to make 6 beakers, or maybe 0%, next turn I'm likely to set it to 0% and can then research all the way to the end of the Masonry at 100%.

Hmm, an addendum, I actually went to 100% science this turn to get Priesthood to about 68/96. I have a few commerce tiles starting to be worked from next turn, so I can go 0% next turn then 100% the turn after then save gold for a turn or so.

Easy turn. Good job or I wouldn't have played it in the morning.
Well, that was a bit lucky. 0.3 health after fighting the barb, so one promotion left. I'll move it into the borders so it can heal a bit faster, and then move out the WTF? garrison to go scout out the tiles for the road to gold.
Well, Azza is useful for something. Any barbs that attack that tile hit his warrior and not mine. I'll use him for cover to quickly get to the western jungle then zoom off exploring.

Turn report later, but I'm looking at Priesthood finished eot T64, with mass overflow. Masonry due eot T67, with Oracle then due eot T69. Pretty risky, actually, more I think about it, but I'd rather have a go at it than see that date pass with it being left lying there.
I would prefer it if someone builds it in the next 3 turns though so I don't have to tech Masonry.

Risking it, I think Azza will move his warrior to that tile.
Onwards with the road to no where version...four?
No longer possible to get the Oracle faster here than at WTF?
Boring city.
Interesting thought: when the capital steals the pig back to grow really quickly, what is this city going to do? Needs 2 grass farms, horse, plains hill mine and two grass hill mines to stay food neutral at size 6, but only makes 14 hpt. OTOH, that isn't a huge decrease from the 18hpt it makes with the pigs...
Sodding costs...

You're just trying to create new city names.

There is some rather nice land down there...
So, I am within 1 beaker of getting Priesthood, but I do not have enough gold to research Masonry straight up at 100%. So I'm saving gold as most people would, but I'm not going to research Priesthood. I'm going to use one of those overflow tricks to give me another turn of leeway before placing the beakers into Masonry. It's an old trick, it's been used before in a more...offensive fashion, here it is used more defensively, so the beakers don't get wasted into a tech I don't really need.
OTOH, the PBEM34V banter thread gave me an idea. the ToA is a pretty shit wonder, but with marble it is only 175 hammers. With OR as well, it's between 150 and 160 hammers depending on the hpt of the city. It gives 5 gpp, 3 from a priest, 2 for a merchant. So...the GM can bulb into CS to enable an early Bureaucracy, the GP can make a shrine. And if I want to favour the Prophet, I can easily build a temple and run a priest, which would push out the GPP in 13 turns. I'd only have to research Polytheism to unlock the ToA, and as OR isn't that useful in this single instance I wouldn't have to tech Monotheism. FWIW, teching Mono and Poly would let me research Monarchy, but I'd be within 150 beakers of finishing Monarchy if I just beelined it. All these figures assume Masonry research is completed.
Downsides to this little escapade would be that I'd delay Aesthetics. This is definitely not worth a beeline IMO, but it's an available strategy if I end up with Masonry, hooked marble, and nothing to build. I'm not sure I want ToA over the SoZ, for instance, and Aesthetics pushes me towards GL (plus NE/HE) builds (which frankly I've always found rather staid strategically, but whatever).
Something to keep in mind.
City locations. I moved the gold site up north one tile to make for better long term cities, and not leave a bunch of tiles unworked. I do expect to make use of windmills early on, but I'm probably going to have to use biology and mines later on. 5 is the furs city (although I may swap that with 6 depending on worker positioning).
